Does anyone know what forum editor GEA are using? Or have one that they recommend?

    Thanks!

     1. Our main plugins are
    LearnDash
    BuddyPress
    Beaver Builder
    Social Learner by BuddyBoss
    PaidMemebershipsPro
    MyCred

    2. Mighty Networks is really cool and in the coming months, there will be a gamified course builder. So it will be an ‘all in one’ solution for folks. I’m stoked about this for the majority of people on the mountain.

    3. @andyfreist has also been using an app called DiscordApp.com and really liking it for his Audio Alchemy community.

Hi @bradleytmorris, I’d like to start a Forum like this one, I have my new site with Social Learner and all the gear sorted out. I’ve been thinking of challenges and things. I remember you said in a video somewhere to have a Facebook group if your Forum was not very big.

I have an Instructors course and I was thinking of making a separate Forum for that or a private one for them.

I was also thinking they could make their own practice log and make it private if they want, I think there is a way of doing that in bbpress.

Love to know your thoughts on this when you get a chance pls? Also is there class today?

Have you checked out Mighty networks @Jennypim? You can make your own private community (paid or free). You can set it up super easy and personally, I like it because it’s away from the noise of Facebook. Within Mighty networks, you can also create sub groups, mastermind groups (all free or paid) … and soon enough, you’ll be able to upload your courses there. Take a look. https://mightynetworks.com/new?utm_source=GreateCourseAdventure

However, yes, you could go with LearnDash, bbpress, etc… like what we have here. If you don’t wanna deal with all the tech/design stuff or don’t have someone reliable to do that, i woudn’t necessarily recommend building what we did here.

Hi @bradleytmorris, thanks for your reply!

I already have it all set up, I’ve been on Learndash for years and love it, I got a separate site with Social Learner and set it up, with my existing courses using the branded colours from my other site, and a few adjustments which Buddypress helped me with,  I’m ok with tech most of the time.

I’m going to give the people their login details onto the new site soon with the Forum.

I want the Forum to be a success, I was going to use challenges like you do here and some other things. Like a place to record their practice thoughts, horse’s reactions etc. Then this way, other people can use the Forum as a search thing to find out other people’s experiences.

But asking people to write a practice log might be a bit of a personal thing to ask, so I’m not sure I should ask them to do that. It might encourage them to practice on the one hand, but on the other hand, nobody might do it and then I’d have nobody on that challenge.

I might write to them and ask them what they think of the idea. But I would like some digital way for them to record their practice personal or private, not it a fillable pdf.

I love the Forum here and you do so much great personal work on it, though I have to admit I wasn’t sure how to work it at first!

Hey @jennypim sounds like you are going great guns. I’d definitely agree to ask your community what they think about the personal journal idea, we’re always finding this is such a great way to learn but also to get good engagement from our community. I was the same with the forum here – I think after using FB so much you get very used to their interface and forums like these ones feel a bit clunky, but I’ve found it worth getting used to! I’d find a short ‘forum hacks’ type video with a super quick guide to using the forums would be useful eg like how to tag people in etc, all those questions people ask when they first start using the forum…

Hi @j9, thanks for the heads up about the video for how to use the Forum and the  encouragement!

Glad you like the Forum, I do like it all being under the one roof.

Have you thought of a journal way with Social Learner? Learndash has a notes add on plugin, but not really a journal.

Have you tried using the wall? We can post on the wall without having to post in the Forum, so it could be something like a journal?

Hope you’re getting on well J9

Hey Jenny, we’re not using a journal in our ecourse I’m afraid so no I haven’t really thought about how we’d integrate a journal. I guess it depends how private your users want it to be….have you contacted Social Learner and asked them for ideas about it?

@j9 yes I did contact them and they don’t have anything and Learndash suggested the notes add on.

But I am having weekly challenges and will encourage people to keep a practice log so that might be better.
