    Hi! What do you all think of these name and tag line combos for my course on making space and sci-fi printables?

    Thanks very much,

    Laura

    1) Make a list of your top 5-10 Names.

    I think I’m going with this one:
    Outer Space Printables

    My other ideas are:
    * Star-Powered Printables
    * A Universe of Printables
    * Space and Sci-Fi Printables
    * Printables Supernova

    ———-

    3) Pick your top 2-3 tagline and names and share them at the Campfire for feedback.
    A* Outer Space Printables: Learn how to design fun space art and graphics. Make it real by printing onto paper and accessories.
    B* Outer Space Printables: Learn How to Make Fun Space Printables for Yourself, Family, & Friends
    C* Outer Space Printables: An adventure to discover how to bring space and sci-fi into your family’s life with all sorts of fun printables

    How about something like:

    Bring Outer Space Home...by Creating  Fun Space “Printables” with your Family

    …all while on a Learning Journey through the Galaxies!

    Laura @laurastarshipfamilyjourney-com – my two cents … for me the titles and taglines fall a bit flat. Your enthusiasm when speaking about the course isn’t infused into the words. I think Sue-Ann @sue-annwritemixforbusiness-com is on the right track with her title “Bring Outer Space Home.”  There’s an element of intrigue that makes me want to keep reading. IMO, “printables” should be left for the tag line (if included at all. Could be saved for the longer description.)

    Can you include the transformation your creating again? Is the “design your own” aspect what sets you apart? Or the sci-fi fanatic who is creatively challenged can make something?

    Here are just a few taglines off the top of my head in case they spark something. Would love to see some spacey lingo:

    Design over the moon printables to bring space and sci-fi fun into your family’s world.

    Boost your creativity with out of this world printables created on your family space adventure.

    [3-2-1 Blast Off:] Launch your family into other worlds through space and sci-fi printables.

    This is a great start Laura. I had to google search to see if “printables” were a thing people would understand and apparently they are. Are there other names for “Printables” that may be more universally understood?

    I’m not a huge fan of all the names so far. I’m wondering if you could come up with 10 other names that would not include the word “printables” in it? (just for fun) Below are a few I came up with that do include it, as well as one tagline. Keep brainstorming though.

    NAME:

    Infinite Printables
    Cosmic Printables
    Printables of the Universe

    TAGLINE: Learn to make your own outer space printables on this family fun sci-fi adventure!

    I agree, I think it’s redundant to have the word printables in both the name and tagline.

    I just want to comment to those of you who said that ‘printables’ isn’t commonly understood. My guess is that Laura’s target market knows exactly what printables are. It is a hot crafting topic right now. Riffing a bit on what Bradley said, I like the idea of

    Cosmic Printables: Create your own outer space images in this family fun sci-fi adventure

    (Yes, printables is redundant in both title and subtitle. )

    Laura, best of luck with this!!!!

    Thank you so very much everyone [smiley face icon here]
    [ Warning .. crazy sci-fi-themed rant ahead ]

    I’m honestly not sure if my target audience would respond well to the word “printables.”

    And, I wish I could find a better word to describe it, because I really don’t like the word …

    I’m wondering if I need to expand this somehow … my hubby suggests that I use “space art and graphics” or something like that …. But, I think the word “art” will scare off most of my audience – they don’t think of themselves as “artists,” I think.

    The thing is, I really don’t have much of an audience right now … I have a small list of 50 that I haven’t emailed in months. Mostly because I’ve been changing my mind about what I want this business [ Starship Family Journey (SFJ) ] to be …

    But, now that I’ve really settled on creating courses – something that I can do over and over and still feel it’s new – I suppose I ought to email them and tell them? The thing is, there are a lot of people on that list who are there as friends, family, and/or business acquaintances  –  NOT true fans of what my company is all about [ SFJ is all about helping parents to get and keep their kids interested in space, sci-fi, and the future. Family geek out time ???? ]

    So, I feel like I’m starting from scratch here and need to build up a new audience. But, ironically, I’m not sure where to look. I feel like I can’t quite find my tribe … I don’t have any friends that LOVE this stuff. It’s always sort of been my (space geek) hubby and I on our own an island … And, I always feel like my space/sci-fi/future-ness is (barely) tolerated by family and friends, and not understood … So, when I join different groups, either I’m too sci-fi/future geeky, or I’m not scientific enough. As always, my geeky ideas and I just don’t fit in.

    A great example of this is a trailer for a new movie – Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets … It’s this beautiful Universe where aliens meet up at a large space city and share all knowledge. If you’ve seen the Fifth Element – one of my favorite movies, it’s by the same director … Anyhow, it just all plays into my feelings of being born a century too soon … I have so many ideas in my mind of places like that …

    Honestly, I’ve never felt like I belong anywhere. Friends, other than my husband, are always transient. I’m always too far out there for anyone … Someone suggested to me that I outgrow them … like I belong in some other galaxy … just me, my hubby and my kids .. hope that doesn’t sound arrogant and/or insane … Have you ever felt like you, your spouse, and your kids just belong somewhere else? Maybe that’s the angle that I should be using with my course? Or maybe it’s just me being weird in a different way than everyone else.

    Anyhow, this all comes into play when I’m stressing about my course name, tagline, and “validating” it all. I guess I really need to “validate” it, although it scares the hell out of me. It all hits the wall now … do I really have a tribe out there that’s kinda-sorta like me? If not, what do I do?

    Anyhow, thank you for reading my rant. Sorry if I got some brain vomit on you 😉 It feels good to type it all out.
    Take care,

    Laura

    Laura @laurastarshipfamilyjourney-com – Yeah!! Great rant!! Get all the crap out. Now that you’ve busted out of trying to fit into a round hole, you can let your creative juices run wild. Being born too soon is one of the ingredients in the secret sauce of making a course worth sharing. You’re going to bring fresh, new perspectives to wow people out of their moon boots. (Start another thread asking for help where you peeps might hang out. Bet between all of us we can get you 100 ideas – at least 100 ideas. I’ll start with 1) Com Con 2) Astronomy websites)

    Let me ask you this …

    You said ” SFJ is all about helping parents to get and keep their kids interested in space, sci-fi, and the future.”

    That is important because …

    then take that answer and ask

    And that’s important because …..

    then take that answer and ask

    And that’s important because ….

    PS: Don’t presume how your audience will react to art, or if they see themselves as artists. You’re wording and descriptions are going to make it clear they don’t have to know anything about being an artists. They are left-brained creatives!  Art is a result, not who are are, or what they do. People take courses because they want a transformation, they want something they can’t do now. You’re offering them a path to be creative in a way they thought they never could.

    PPS: Love the words art, graphics, crafts, etc. They’re tangible.

    No, you are not thr only family that feeld far from the “norm”!

    Two ways I defend against it:

    – Stop comparing with other families and enjoy our weirdness, and

    – Recognize how miserable I would be if I were just “normal”! (I take “you’re weird” as a compliment and would assume “you’re normal” as an insult.)

    So, yes, some of us are out there to be found, for sure.

    As far as name and tag lines, what if you look at it from a different galaxy: think about what the benefit is to that spacey family to learn whatever it is you plan to teach them.

    Thank you so much for being so supportive:) I went on Spring Break with my kids and hubby

    I went on Spring Break with my kids and hubby and had a lot of time to think while exploring the Grand Canyon 🙂

    Wow, you all have such good names and taglines!!! I have to think this all over before going into Validation Swamp …

    @Sue-Ann: I love how your “Bring Outer Space Home” reminds me of the movie posters for The Martian movie 🙂

    @BradleyMorris: Thanks! I’m working on the non-“printables” name 🙂 I have a long list of things, but that word really does wrap it all up. I thought of “make-ables,” but that really doesn’t work either – it sounds like electronics-making … I’ll focus on making it more practical. Maybe even using that word. I feel like if I don’t get attention with the primary name, people won’t bother to read the tagline, or the larger description. It’s stressful … And I’ve gotta get into Validation Swamp …

    @DrWayne: Thanks! I totally agree. No one ever calls me normal, but it they did, I’d read it as “boring.” Yes, I will think of the benefits to the spacey family …

    @prancingpixel: I love your “Cosmic Printables: Create your own outer space images in this family fun sci-fi adventure”

    @lorraine: Yes, square peg 😉 The transformation is: going from wanting to add outer space stuff to your and your family’s life, but not knowing where to start …
