Lisa, try the H1 without the Rode plugged in. I’ve had great audio from my Zoom H2’s built-in mics (different style than the H1, still worth you testing). Initially, the gain was *way* too high on the H2 — like picking up the sound of the ventilation from the ceiling vent! Once I figured out how to adjust it so that it was closer to 80% on the input level, it was much, much better.
Enjoy the camera time!
๐July 9, 2016 at 5:57 am #27363Great idea Wayne – will try it! Thanks!

August 17, 2016 at 2:01 am #29189Geez, it’s been more than a month since my last update – how did that happen?!
I’ve been busy.
With Dr. Wayne’s expert assistance (thanks buddy!) I have the beginnings of a platform that I can now start to develop. I’m going for Social Learner on Sensei and the full GEA style system. Woohoo! I’m also thinking of creating bite sized module packages alongside the full in-development offering, to help generate some income and get feedback earlier.
I’m also deep into logo design with my graphic designer. These are the shortlisted full logo concepts. They’re not finished yet, so they’re lacking a little polish, but you get the idea. I’d love some feedback on these, especially on which is your favourite… When the logo is chosen I have a 3D motion graphic designer on stand by to create me a super pimped up 3D motion end card for my videos. Exciting!
I’ve bought an iPad autocue, which I’m hoping will speed up filming.
In terms of current challenges, I’m also encountering some huge resistance on the actual sitting down and getting stuff written front. On my development days I can literally avoid writing the entire day by thinking about the platform and tech, reading posts in Freedom Hackers, writing replies here, anything that puts of the discomfort of actually getting my scripts done. However, since Dr. Wayne and I know we thrive on a little friendly rivalry we’ve decided to compete through word counts. I have high hopes for this! Let’s see how that goes this weekend.
That’s all for now!
KAPOW.

But I do know that those logos are F’ing AWESOME!
They all look so dang good, its hard to choose one.
And that is a great problem to have ๐
August 17, 2016 at 11:04 am #29205They are ALL really good. I think though that I like the middle one. ย It just looks a little more balanced to me. Love the colors you chose as well!
August 18, 2016 at 11:30 am #29289WOW WOW WOW! I am even more excited than ever seeing this. I digg the middle one personally. Something about it makes it feel like it’s in motion. My second fav is the far right.
Keep us posted on how things go withย Social Learner on Sensei and the full GEA style system. You’re making magic Lisa. Way to go!!!
Big shout-out to your Adventure Buddy, Dr. Wayne too!!! He’s a legend on the mountain.
August 18, 2016 at 11:47 am #29298Wow Lisa, so inspiring!
As for logo’s, I definitely like the middle one the best.
I’d love to chat a little about your journey with Social Learner, Any chance you’d have time for a 10 min call sometime?
Thanks and great work, it is inspiring!
August 21, 2016 at 2:59 pm #29583Haha, Andy! Rabbit holes is definitely the term. Nonsensical weird ass plugin shiz is another. It’s all very Alice in Wonderland… Thanks for the logo feedback – that’s huge for me that you think they’re good!
Deanna – thanks so much for this feedback. I think I’ve ruled out the first logo as it doesn’t seem to have as much impact on people as the others. The other two I’m still really torn between because they both look great in different contexts. The one you like is awesome in the desktop version of the new platform, in the top left corner, but loses something when it needs to be centred. I’ve got back to the designer with final feedback and tweaks, and I’ve got everything crossed that one of these two will be the perfect logo to move forward with. The comps Elijah did for you are SO awesome – look at us all logoing up!
Brad – thanks dude! Great feedback and I totally agree about it feeling in motion. I’m really enjoying playing with the platform. It’s totally frustrating one minute, then so exciting and satisfying when I figure something out.
Chris G – thanks so much for your feedback. We’re already in touch privately, but yes of course, if my ‘flying by the seat of my pants’ approach to WordPress development is helpful to you I’m more than happy to chat. Let’s get something in the diary.
So it looks like Dr Wayne’s ‘beat me on word count’ gauntlet throw down has worked a treat. I wrote 3500 words on Saturday and completed my next module. Most successful writing day ever. And Brad I even wrote out a full guided meditation! I think what worked is that I started with the big important tasks for the day instead of trying to clear the decks of the itty bitty shitty ones instead. Take that Resistance!

August 23, 2016 at 5:23 pm #29740I’m smiling big at your progress Lisa.
How can we (Andy, myself and the community) support your next steps?
What do you need?
August 24, 2016 at 1:47 pm #29790Thanks Brad,
Hmmmm, good question.
What I need right now is a little assistance on very specific small WordPress-y issues that I’m running into as I’m starting to get the platform up and running and that I can’t seem to find answers to online. I know I’ll find the answers eventually, somehow, but it feels like I could save some time by asking someone who knows exactly what the answer is, and just says, “Yeah, you just need to do x, y, z to fix that”, but I don’t have enough of them all collected together to make it worthwhile having a coaching session with Andy just yet.
And what else I need – I need play. Lots of it. I need to be silly. I need you guys to be silly. It takes the seriousness away from what I’m trying to do and keeps everything lighter and more fun. But you guys already do that, so I wanna say thank you and that if you wanna bring more crazy to our interactions I’m down with that.
Now I’m going to eat biscuits in my tent. Always some spare for you guys if you wanna stop by.
How’s Sauryn doing Brad? ๐
August 26, 2016 at 8:05 am #29843Awesome, thanks for sharing Lisa. Make a list and post it. ย @andyfreist may be able to direct you to answers, as I’m sure they are all issues he had to face at one point or another.
As for the silly factor, we will amp up our game on that front. GREAT IDEA!!!!!
Sauryn is amazing. Thanks for asking. He’s a happy baby who loves to move, adventure, snuggle AND sleep (a lot). He’s going out for his first game of golf today with his daddio ย ๐
I’ll be by for biscuits in a bit!
August 29, 2016 at 9:11 am #29883Aww that’s great to hear Brad. So sweet!
My main issue is around changing things that have no obvious area within the WP dashboard dedicated to tweaking them. And the Social Learner theme customisation options are very limited and sometimes a little frustrating.
I know some things can be done with custom css, but I’m not a code expert, and although I can generally find the bit of code that I need to add to the CSS, I don’t know where to add it in the stylesheet so that it actually works. I found myself an amazing plugin called Yellow Pencil which is a WYSIWYG custom css editor. I’ve been making massive strides forward with it all since then (hugely recommend the plugin too if anyone is interested). But there are still some things that I can’t access using it, or if I can access them, I can’t edit them in the way I want.
So the things I currently have that I can’t figure out are:
- How to edit the buddypress menu (the dropdown that appears when you hover over your account and picture in the top right).
- How to add or change the icons that appear with menu items on the buddy panel (left menu).
- How to add the orangey coloured hover mask and play button to course images in the course grid (this was supposed to come over with the dummy data import but it hasn’t)
- How to add a different main icon for mobile users to see. (Because the logo appears in the middle rather than to one side, so I want to use my more symmetrical logo version on the mobile view)
Sure there’ll be more to add soon, but just shows you the sort of things that are coming up…

September 5, 2016 at 1:54 pm #30068Question: What do you think would be an awesome currency for a superhero training academy?
Hero gold? Superdollars? Power points? Supercoins? Kabooms?
๐
September 6, 2016 at 10:35 am #30112NICE! You’re going with the currency, Lisa.
Power Points is fun.
EARN POWER POINTS (nice ring to it).
I have a funny suspicion that you’re having fun with this Lisa???
September 7, 2016 at 1:07 pm #30148Hey Lisa, I think I like “Power Points” best as well. “Hero Coins” is my second.
I don’t really like “Hero Gold” or “Super Dollars”, not sure why really, just don’t like the sound of them as much.
