I have a small suggestion for the GEA.

I would like to see “replies” to an individual’s post look a little like facebook where there could be 15 comments, but you can reply specifically to the person who posted without scrolling down all of the other replies first. You can still see the others, but it would be obvious that I am replying to a particular person who has posted or even replied.

At the moment, Person A may start a Thread, then person B, Person C and Person D all answer it. Person A may want to thank Person C but his/her reply won’t be seen until after Person D has posted. So often I see a person posting 4 times to answer each individual comment.

This would still happen, but the reply would be attached to the actual person’s comment which others could add to specific to the person who first posted.

I really hope this makes sense. If you think “Facebook” and how people can comment, and then people can reply to the comment (even though others have been posted before hand.)

If this doesn’t make sense, I will put up a screenshot, but as many are aware how Facebook works, I’m hoping it is fairly clear. Where I found this quite confusing was in the video threads where there were 4 videos in a row and then people came in later to comment. If it went directly under the actual post, this would be easier to follow and not get confused with comments following a direct line (but could be related to a post 2 pages back).

Let me know whether this makes any sense at all. It is nearly midnight on my little island. Brain needs sleep. xx

Hey Cathy, thanks for your input! It’s greatly appreciated 🙂

I totally understand where you’re coming from, and we actually had it set up like that for a short time. The thing is, it actually didn’t quite act the way we wanted it. Logically, it was more what we’re used to with Facebook, but the way this forum software functions actually made it quite a bit harder to keep track of the conversation.

There’s actually an easy way to reply to specific comments in the forum here, and it’s easy to miss, which is why we haven’t seen many people use it. Perhaps I need to add this to the upcoming forums tutorial update we’re putting together.

    It’s the “Quote” feature..

If you take a look at the top right corner of this message, you’ll see a link that says “quote”. If you click that, it will copy my message as a quote, so that its more clear what exactly you are replying to.

I know it might seem like a weird way to go about it, but the vast majority of classic forums use this technique over “threaded” FB-style replies.

We will definitely put this feature request in our log and see if we can implement it in a way that enhances everyones experience.

For now, the workaround is to use the Quote feature 😉

    Hope that helps!

PS – If you quote a message that’s really long, you can just edit it down a wee bit in the text editor.. You’ll see what i mean when you give it a try.

Thankyou @andyfreist for your reply. I located the “Quote” so will use in future. Understand about software. You have to work with what you have for sure.
