I decided not to do any recording in Spain. I realise that I’m terrible at just stopping, so I took my colouring book and filled it in every time work reared its head. So I have much to do.
September 20, 2017 at 7:04 pm #53750Sounds wonderful @mars!
I just got back from a week holiday with my family too.
It felt soo good to be off my laptop for a while.
No back to the studio space to create some inspiring stuff for you folks!
September 30, 2017 at 9:42 am #56494Well that’s a great big bust then. I went to play back the episodes I put on Anchor.fm and there is nothing there.
So, I’m going to call it quits on the Sept deadline and spend time, when I’m back home from my course, working out why technology and I aren’t friends. Then I will give it another go. I had beautiful women telling me their stories and they are gone. Hey ho. Breathe, breathe again, breathe and release.
September 30, 2017 at 12:08 pm #56533Ah Mars, nooo! I could weep for you! You poor thing. Is there any way you can pull the stories back together again from notes and things? I feel so bad for you.
September 30, 2017 at 12:44 pm #56543Oh @mars – I’m so sorry!! Even though the Sept deadline is scrapped, is there a way to collect the stories again? That’s the true treasure.
September 30, 2017 at 3:31 pm #56566Hey @saramcgann and @toweller Yes, I’ll collect them again. It’s frustrating, but not insurmountable. I’ll get it done.
September 30, 2017 at 3:52 pm #56577The segments are auto archived every 24 hours. Not sure how to access them (haven’t tried myself) but here are instructions. Maybe all is not lost. I hope not!
September 30, 2017 at 5:07 pm #56585Ouch! Is my first reaction.
Hope that Laura’s link to a potential fix may help is my second reaction…
My third is thus…
Having recorded and heard publicly many stories over the years and had these kinds of barriers (loss of recordings, cancellations, etc) come up at the worst times once in a blue moon (less and less as I fine tune understanding of tech and build in back ups) IF this is not saveable, here is what I would suggest…
Sit with what resonated MOST deeply with you in the stories you heard the first time…
Reach out to each woman whose story you know deep down is ready to be told… Let them know your sorrow… and the deep way they moved you the first time and how you feel that this setback cannot stop the story from being told and talk about the countless women who share such a personal and intimate story and how it needs to be told for them to feel less alone and to help them also find their voice… This is bigger than you or them or some tech bullshit… this is about birthing those stories and sharing them with the world that needs to hear them to help so many women heal…
And find a way to do it again. Except this second time won’t be the same.
- You will record it in a way to have a back up. (ask for help if not clear how. There are many ways to do this). No tech will stop it from being share THIS TIME! NO F-in’ way!
- You will go deeper. Pause and listen more… ask questions you may have been shy to ask the first time. Give them time to prepare and go over it again and discover threads and themes that were on the edges also wanting to be spoken. Their voices will be richer, fuller. You have practiced and it will be easier in some way because the ground has been broken and more risky in other ways because you know this one, this take is for real. This will make a ripple in the universe, it will move hearts and stir minds… And you will let it move you both even more so this time.
This is how I would look at it and what my heart would tell me to do.
Most of all, listen to your heart and follow what it tells you to do next.
September 30, 2017 at 9:02 pm #56599THIS is why I love this community so much. I am so amazed at all the support and love that’s gone out to you @mars and I love the way @DavidJ articulated his advice. I echo it. I have lost so much footage over the years, but EVERY single time I had to re-shoot, it was always 200% better than the first time. This is a gift. Follow in David’s guidance and your second round will be far better than the first. You’ll be laughing in excitement at how good the next shoot is.
September 30, 2017 at 11:38 pm #56612You are all such wonderful people. Thank you. You made my heart sing this morning.
I’m off to run my course again today, and I’ll be glowing knowing what support I have here, amongst a bunch of mountain travellers who not only want to get to the top of the mountain, but want to ensure ‘no one is left behind’.
So thank you @saramcgann @toweller @davidj (always such sage advice) and @bradleytmorris
Today is a new day and I’m going to find out what’s going on with me, my phone and anchor.fm, then I’m going to reflect deeply on @davidj said and look to see it I can find the archives. Then I’m going to make some phone calls over the next week, and re-record these stories. Thank you! <virtual kisses hugs and red wine for you all>
October 2, 2017 at 10:54 am #56801@mars – so lovely to hear!! I can’t wait to see and hear what develops for you from this experience .
October 2, 2017 at 11:33 am #56816@mars – Here’s what I’ve learned about Anchor.
To make sure your recordings are archived for future use, go into your profile (hit the person in the lower right corner) and then hit the … at the top right corner and choose “Edit Profile”. Scroll down to the bottom of that screen and under “My Station” there is a button to “Auto-archive” your active station every day at midnight EST. Make sure it is green. From what I understand, Anchor deactivates any recordings you’ve made after 24 hours, and if you don’t have that button activated then they will disappear. When I came back to my station the day after I made all those recordings, it said my station was empty – but underneath that section there is a Station Archives section with all of my recordings, and more will populate as I add more. I believe the intent of this is to keep the station as active as possible. In order to keep your station “On Air” you need to record for that day, and if you don’t then it will register as “Off Air”.
Another way to retain the recordings is to create episodes. An episode can be one recording, or you can actually combine recordings to create a “Monster” episode. If you decide later that you don’t want that episode to be a permanent fixture, or that you’d rather mix things in different ways, then you can delete the episode. So it’s not like you’re stuck with it for life.
So that’s the tech novice interpretation. Check to see if that button is on, and then think about creating an “episode” during that first 24 hours (maybe right away if you’re worried that life might intervene). If you don’t make an episode right away, you can always go into your archives, reactivate a prior recording. At that time, it will become active on your station and you can create an episode that will remain permanently active on your station. Anchor points out that this could be a problem if your audience is expecting new content and discovers an old recording – but at this moment I would be very pleased to have someone return and actually remember they’d listened to the same episode before 🙂
I hope you can resurrect those prior recordings (since that would save a lot of work on your part). Having said that, though, I echo what others have said about the second attempt having the potential to be even better than the first. We’ve all been there and hopefully your storytellers will understand. And possibly they thought about or remembered something after the initial recording that they can share on the second and it will make an even bigger impact, for them and for your audience.
🙂
October 2, 2017 at 12:52 pm #56830Thank you, you wonderful people.
All noted @laurakoller Thank you.
I’m just home from a successful workshop in Birmingham, so just catching up on the mountain tonight – then falling into a deep sleep as I’m rather zorsted.
October 3, 2017 at 7:23 am #56955Hi @mars,
I’m just now having a chance to catch up with your website and work.
What you are doing is so very important and touching… (two of my children
died before they were born, at 5 months each time.. this was in 1990 and 1995 so Michael
would have been 27 and Asher 22 by now). And truly they have “grown” all these years
with us, from the spirit realm.. and have participated in the life of our family from the other side.
I think that these are souls with whom we have a deep connection, sometimes our service as parents
is just to give them a chance to touch base with the earth plane but not to raise them all the way
through life this time. It’s such a hard thing to go through and an even deeper form of parental service
than the more usual (and joy-filled) kind.
Thank you for all you do, for all the parents and all the babies.. the ones that come here and stay,
and the ones that just say hello for a brief while.
Your service is deeply important and highly valuable.
RebeccaOctober 3, 2017 at 10:02 am #57019Gosh @learnandgetsmarter You just made me cry. Thank you for your lovely words.
