We have a print book (over 100,000 copies sold) that needs to be made into an course. We have wanted to do this for over 10 years and the timing seems better now than ever.
Trying to decide on lms platform, host, and other tech. Leaning toward LearnDash. We are already on WordPress and have the Divi theme. Social Learner looks interesting. So many pieces to put together, but want whatever we build to be expandable.
Wanting to keep the content engaging with gamification and interactive content. Not sure how much video to include. Have always done projects in-house and probably want to keep it that way.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned @LGray, it’s to design your curriculum and experience first, then figure out the tech. Thinking about the tech before the content is created is kinda like putting the cart before the horse. It is a distraction from the most important thing when it comes to courses — the content  🙂
As you get further up the mountain, we help you figure out your tech. For now, focus on writing the course.
Howdy there Linda @lgray! Welcome to the camfire, mightly glad yer here! I had me a little peek-a-boo through Google and Amazon and found me a glimpse at that there book you mentioned. “Auto Upkeep, Basic Car Care, Maintenance and Repair.” Not a wonder y’all done sold over 100,000 copies! If yer eCourse is half as good as that book it’s sure to be a winner. I love how you keep a topic that can be daunting and overwhelming to many, so simple and easy to grasp. We’re mighty pleased to hear that you’re now going to take this information into the eCourse learning realm. And we’re happy to encourage and support you along the way. Welcome to the mountain Linda! (Usually we’d say no motorized vehicles allowed on the trek up this here mountain but in yer case we might just have to make an exception!)
Don’t let the tech bog you down, it sounds a lot like you’re in a similar boat as myself, as I have a WordPress & Divi theme combi…and I ended up going a completely different route after spending a little extra time thinking things through! 🙂
