So, I’m going to start this progress log with a statement of what I am giving up in order to get momentum.

I am giving up my sense of “terminal uniqueness” .  As in…”that doesn’t apply to me”  or, “oh yeah, I already know that.” That terminal uniqueness has stopped me in my tracks more times than I can count.  Time to admit to myself that I really am NOT any different than anyone else and I can learn/apply some new things.

Dear Rebecca, Thank you for that term! I wrestle with same. Awareness of being unique–(I know, we all are. It’s just that the AWARENESS stirs up some stinky brew occasionally.) I am now thinking it isn’t “uniqueness” that is the trouble but tacking on “Terminal”. Now I know what to watch for–thanks! And I look forward to climbing this mountain with you.

This “terminal uniqueness” is something I had troubles with too. This is what I traced it down to, for me…will share incase it is helpful as I suspect others may relate. I had up to recently only been able define myself AND make progress n life through reaction against. As in – I’m not like those people, I don’t fit into this job, I can’t manage the office work, I don’t fit with the ‘muggles’, I don’t belong in catholic church…etc… this actually helped me push against things and carve my own path…. Until I didn’t have anything left to react against! And found myself kind of lost, in my own ‘uniqueness’. More recently I have started looking for allies with shared values, and thinking about what I wanted to move towards, and what I share with others, and as a result have started find real community and support. Giving up on defining ourselves somehow as an outcast/better than/specially unique etc can feel weirdly like a loss initially, but there is so much more to gain. Awesome to hear your declaration!!

YES! Terminal uniqueness is a great term, and it can serve to isolate us from not just others but the part of ourselves that is like others! It is a good lesson to learn to hold on to the uniqueness in a way that doesn’t other us! Thanks for the post Rebecca xxx

Well, I’ve done it….I’ve developed and posted my basic content as a free course. I am using the free course as my “proof of concept” that people will buy the course. I am also using it as my Beta test – for improvements, etc that will be applied to the paid course.

I opened registration on Saturday, Feb 26 and it will close on March 2. So far I have 26 participants. The class will start on Monday, March 6.

I am excited there seems to be real interest in what I have to offer.

This is fantastic @rebeccalachance!!! Love that you’re doing a test to get feedback.

Can you remind us what the free course you’re offering is all about?

    Sending digital high fives!

Thanks Bradley. My course is PhotoStories of the Heart – a 5 week course to teach “intentional” photography. BY the end of the course, participants will be producing photographs that evoke an emotion/heartfulness. As of this moment, I have 32 participants! Happy Dance, Happy Dance! I already know I want to include an audio that talks them through the see/breathe/move actions before clicking a shutter.

RIGHT!!! I love this idea. There are going to be so many people who want to learn to practice photographer as a personal/spiritual practice… at least that’s how this kind of course would translate to me. Congratulations on your 32 participants. The good news is, the majority of people sign up on the last day (so don’t be afraid to get vocal about it on Social Media and throughout your networks).

So…I am two weeks into my 5 week free course (which is my beta test for the paid version I’m developing here.)

    1. 48 registered, 50% open the emails, 15 people joined the Facebook group and 5 people are regular contributors. I think I need to give some thought to the community building portion. For myself, I know I am very selective about the “training” FB groups that I join also.

    2. A new opportunity has opened up because I do have people asking me to critique their photos and give them new information about how to improve. So, I’m thinking there is a space to develop a tutorial/consultation paid product to address these folks.

This is an amazing start @rebeccalachance. Huge congratulations!!!!

Your #2 idea on offering private consults is spot-on accurate. Any idea what you might include in those packages?

Sharing an “ah-ha” from the experience with my beta course. (delivered via email)

It seems that about every other week, participants do not receive the email lessons. Which means, I have to go back and resend the lesson to the select individuals who did not receive the lesson.

While it’s not difficult to resend the lessons, it is time consuming. So, this experience has given me the knowledge to build the program as a web-site that each of the participants can access.

I’m hoping that will prevent “missed” or “dropped” emails.

    Nice catch @rebeccalachance!

Curious what autoresponder program you’re using and why you figure people aren’t getting the emails?

Depending on which lesson you’re on, we can help you choose the site to build your course content on 🙂

    Hey Bradley,

Using Mailchimp. Two weeks ago, participants (about 1/4) messaged me they had not received the lessons. Mailchimp traced the emails all the way to the servers of their respective email providers – and the emails stopped there. Which is bizarre because everyone had received about 5 emails up to that point. And when I resent the lesson, they all received it.

Today, I received a message from a participant that Monday’s lesson had not been received Yet, she did receive the resend.

I am behind on my trail because I’ve been focusing on the beta course. I have one more week to go, then I will hit the trail again!
