Dear Mother,
I imagine you are reading this page because for some reason your birth did not turn out the way you had dreamed and hoped it would. You likely spent so much time preparing for your birth, and you believed you had done everything ‘right’ so you could have a good birthing experience. Perhaps you are feeling shocked, disappointed, angry, sad, confused and still struggling, silently, with self-blame?
I have heard mothers say: ‘My body failed me, it was my fault’; ‘I just couldn’t do it’; ‘I thought I was prepared, but obviously I was not’; ‘I just wanted it all to end’.
Maybe it has been months since your birth, or perhaps years, and you are still struggling to ‘feel okay’ about what happened. On some level, you keep thinking that you should feel better by now. And yet, you find yourself trying hard to be at peace about the whole thing, connect with your baby, and hide your tears.
You are not alone, many mothers have told me that they don’t want to feel this way when they think about the birth of their baby, and they don’t want to tell their baby a negative birth story.
These moms want to tell their baby how happy they are that they were born, without cringing or holding back something every time they think about it. And, they are tired of avoiding talking about their birth.Maybe you can relate?
…………….
Healing After Birth: Helping Mothers Feel Better About Their Birth Experiences.
A trauma-informed program that guides you through a process of diving in, exploring what was lost, navigating feelings and thoughts, and coming out the other side with clarity, acceptance, and a sense of ‘okayness’ about what happened.
All of which helps to facilitate growth and a deeper connection to yourself and your family, so you can feel a new sense of joy and strength as a Mother.Healing After Birth will help you to:
- Move through stuck emotions like anger and grief
- Make sense out of your birth experience
- Tell a new birth story, without shame
- Find acceptance and understanding
- Reconnect with your baby/child
- Be okay to be feeling this way
- Stop blaming your body
- Reclaim what was lost
The program is a ‘go at your own pace’ process of healing that has a home-like ‘safe feel’, like being wrapped in a cozy blanket and offered tea, that includes 3 Stages of Healing and 12 Lessons of Deeper Discovery with a combo of: video, guided meditation processes and therapeutic activities, journal exercises, an online community, and weekly group calls to go deeper into the process of healing.
A bit about me and why I am so passionate to offer you this program…
Eighteen years ago I woke up to the call that I wanted to help women experience empowerment through birth. I did not know then that my turn of events, experiences, and teachings that have brought me here today were all preparing me to facilitate healing for mothers who have had a negative childbirth experience.
I knew back then that I was passionate about eliminating ‘violence in childbirth.’ This was obvious the day I read: ‘Birth Without Violence’ & ‘Immaculate Deception II’. Both of those books imprinted me with a profound desire to raise awareness about the adverse effects of childbirth trauma (although that term was not coined back then) AND motivated me to study traditional midwifery.
I spent close to a decade on the other side of the fence, teaching, supporting and learning how to be a caregiver to women in labor; someone who could offer something different than the standard of care at that time.
However, I learned I could not ‘protect’ women from negative childbirth experiences. And so, after a windy road or turbulence that brought me into the depths of my healing challenged all of my beliefs and destroyed the identity I had been living in for years, I have come out the other side ripe to offer a profoundly healing program like no other.
I am invested in your healing journey to the same degree I was invested in women’s birthing experiences. I know that healing is possible.
I spent the past six years studying about Trauma and completing my Masters in Counselling Psychology so I can offer you a program that is rooted in knowledge, experience, and real transformation. If you are still reading and interested in diving in…
I am inviting you to join this cutting edge program that inspires healing on a mind, emotional, spiritual, and relational level. My deep desire, for every mother that I work with, is that they find peace of heart so they can truly let go of the pain associated with their childbirth experience.
If you feel drawn to join this community of brave Mothers who are willing to embrace their healing journey, I encourage you to sign up below for the early bird discount as I bring my ‘live’ program, to an ‘online’ community.
Early Bird Offer
This is a special offer, at a discounted rate, because I am inviting you to help test the online platform. I am invested in your healing, and if this platform does not generate the results I am claiming the program can offer, then I need to try something different! I am not interested in offering a program that does not help mothers heal. Some Mothers had this to say about the program:
“I feel such a sense of relief because I feel like I can finally stop hating myself for the things that happened during my labor”
“I gained the courage to believe that future births do not have to be the same way. I have realized how strong my body was, and how amazing it is for what it does”
“I learned that the ability to heal is within me and within reach”
This invitation is a presale to help discover If there is enough interest in an online version of the Healing After Birth program. If there is, I will be launching the program as early as June 1st, 2017. The content will be delivered one lesson at a time, so not to overwhelm you and to give me time to put the content online.
FAQ’sWhat is the difference between online and the live program? Is the content the same?
Yes and no. The flow of the program is similar to live, however, there are additional pieces that are not delivered during the live program due to time constraints.
Why is there a different price point between live and online?
Because the live, in person program, is subsidized by the NFP Jewish Family Services Edmonton and Edmonton Healing Centre. Also, it does not include individual counselling. It is a 16 hour program. Where as, the online version, has more content, weekly coaching calls which encourage deeper inquiry and insight, and community forum support. You receive more ‘care’ between sessions. What are the benefits of online?
Flexibility, time, and location. A big challenge for mothers is finding time without their child/ren that they can commit to on a weekly basis. Further, the online community is always there, so you can access it at any time if you have insight, challenges, or need to feel connected to a community.
I already took the live program, would I benefit from this program?
If you are feeling the need to go deeper into the exercises and if you found that something is still lingering, than yes, I would encourage you to join the online program. If you want access to the guided mediation processes, so you can listen to them whenever you feel overwhelmed by old pattered responses, than yes I would encourage you to join the program. If you feel complete, and have claimed your new birth story, I would not encourage to join. I would however, encourage you to tell that new story often!
I am so thrilled to be offering you this program and to help facilitate healing around your past childbirth experience. Please sign up before May 15th, 2017, so I can get a good feel for commitment level. With Warmth and Kindness,
Jennifer Summerfeldt
March 17, 2017 at 3:12 pm #36022Gonna go through this when I have a bit more time. Did a skim. It looks great and could likely use a little tightening up. Will get back to you soon. If you get the chance, see if you can go through and trim the fat.
It’s long and wordy (which is great for a first draft). But before I do an edit through, see if you can do your next edit by eliminating all that is unnecessary, repeated or rambly
Note: I haven’t done more than a skim, so I can’t say what needs to go.
Look forward to checking it out though.
(let me know if you do get a chance to refine it, so I know which draft I”m looking at)
March 18, 2017 at 5:59 am #36027Will do Bradley, thank you!
I am getting my guru marketing friend to review it. Once finished I will re-post it here.
Just to clarify, is this a pre-sales page or a short email I am sending to ‘hub’ people asking them to send it out ot anyone they know?
I imagine what I will do is create a web page with this copy, and add a link for purchasing.
And I will create an email for people in my network so they can send clients my way.
So I wrote the copy for my ideal client, not my colleagues. Also, having a hard time with pricing.
March 19, 2017 at 6:35 am #36119ATTEMPT #2 – It is much longer now. Ha! It was edited by Tad, and he suggested adding examples.
Dear MotherI imagine you are reading this page because for your birth did not turn out the way you had dreamed and hoped it would. You spent so much time preparing for your birth. You believed you had done everything ‘right’ so you could have a good birthing experience. It’s hard to not feel the feelings you are feeling, and yet, society around you keeps telling you that you ‘should be happy’ or they just don’t seem to get why you are not adjusting well.
I have heard mothers say over and over again: ‘My body failed me, it was my fault’; ‘I just couldn’t do it’; ‘I thought I was prepared’; ‘I just wanted it all to end’; ‘I felt abandoned and like I had no control’
Maybe it has been months since your birth, or perhaps years, and you are still struggling to ‘feel okay’ about what happened.
On some level, you’re doubting how you feel and you keep thinking that you should feel better by now. And, like so many other mothers I have spoken with, you find yourself avoiding talking about your birth experience.Let’s look at some examples of how this might be showing up for you
You decide to join a Moms group, you like the idea of being social, getting out of the house with your baby/toddler, and yet the dreaded thing happens: You are asked to tell your birth story to a group of ‘strangers’. You freeze. You do not know what to say, or how you want to say it. You either pass or say something that denies the degree of pain that you are feeling about the experience. You leave feeling frustrated with yourself, and maybe you don’t even return to the group.
Or
You are gathering with your family, for a family get together. It has been months since your birth. Somehow the topic of childbirth is brought up again, and someone asks you how you are doing, because they know you had an unplanned cesarean section, after planning for a home birth. You find yourself answer the question with a flat tone and quickly say: Oh, I am fine. It was the best outcome for all of us. It couldn’t have turned out any differently, my body was just not progressing. Yet, you notice that something about how you said this and the tone in your voice, felt off. You want to believe this, yet you are still not really okay about what happened.
Or
You are having a hard time connecting with your baby. It has been 3 months now, you expected things to shift but you still notice that you feel empty inside. You think to yourself that your body failed you and you avoid thinking about your birth, because when you do you feel all kind of emotions: angry, guilt, shame, sadness. You want to be happy that you have a healthy beautiful baby, yet, you find that you are not lighting up in the way you imagined when you see your baby.Maybe you can relate?

Every mother experiences this differently, however, there does seem to be a common thread of something having been lost or stolen from them.
Loss of power during labor – Maybe you felt that you could no longer decide what was best for you and your baby, you lost trust in your body and in the process of childbirth, and so your caregiver took over and took charge of your birthing experience
Loss of dream birth –
Loss of body health and integrity –
Loss of transformative process –
Loss of immediate bonding with newborn –

PRICE POINT?
The live program, subsidized by JFSE, is $99 for 8 sessions = 16 hoursThe online program will be 12 Sessions and online group coaching = 32 hours min

……………..March 20, 2017 at 9:58 am #36172Hi Jennifer, great job on writing this. Very well done and I agree, it’s hard to shorten what is there. This copy is definitely meant for a registration/sales page, NOT in an email. You’ll probably want to send out a few emails before your cut-off date sharing this, as well as to ask some partners to promote it for you as well at the pre-sale pricing.
I went through and did another edit, trying to shorten some of the longer sentences.
Take or leave what’s there. You’ve done a great job with this pre-sale letter.
Once it’s up on an actual page, we can do one more run through and get feedback.
<span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>HERE ARE IS MY EDITED VERSION:</span>
Dear Mother,
I imagine you are reading this page because you did not have the birthing experience you dreamed of?
You spent so much time preparing for your birth and truly believed you had done everything ‘right.’
And what’s even harder is that nobody understands why you’re not adjusting well to your new role as a mother.
They say, “You must be so happy,” but when you’re honest with yourself, you’re not.
I have heard mothers say over and over again:
- ‘My body failed me, it was my fault’;
- ‘I just couldn’t do it’;
- ‘I thought I was prepared’;
- ‘I just wanted it all to end’;
- ‘I felt abandoned and like I had no control’
Maybe it has been months since your birth, or perhaps years, and you are still struggling to ‘feel okay’ about what happened.
On some level, you may be doubting how you feel and you keep thinking that you should feel better by now.
And, like so many other mothers I have spoken with, you find yourself avoiding talking about your birth experience.
Let’s look at some examples of how this might be showing up for you:
First Example: You decide to join a Moms group.
You like the idea of being social, getting out of the house with your baby/toddler, and yet the dreaded thing happens.
You are asked to tell your birth story to a group of ‘strangers’. You freeze. You don’t know what to say, or how you want to say it. You either pass or say something that denies the degree of pain that you are feeling about the experience. You leave feeling frustrated with yourself, and maybe you don’t even return to the group.
Or
Second Example: You are gathering with your family, for a family get together.
It has been months since your birth. Somehow the topic of childbirth is brought up again, and someone asks you how you are doing, because they know you had an unplanned cesarean section, after planning for a home birth.
You find yourself answer the question with a flat tone and quickly say: “Oh, I am fine. It couldn’t have turned out any differently, my body was just not progressing.” Yet, you notice that something about how you said this and the tone in your voice, felt off. You want to believe this, yet you are still not really okay about what happened.
Or
Example Three: You are having a hard time connecting with your baby.
It has been 3 months now, you expected things to shift but you still notice that you feel empty inside.
You think to yourself that your body failed you and you avoid thinking about your birth, because when you do you feel all kind of emotions: angry, guilt, shame, sadness.
You want to be happy that you have a healthy beautiful baby, yet, you find that you are not lighting up in the way you imagined when you see your baby.

This offering is something that I have been sharing in-person for years and recently I have felt called to make it available online as a way to help more mothers.

The content will be delivered one lesson at a time, so not to overwhelm you and to give me time to put build the course in full.
We are truly in this together, every step of the way.
Pre-Sale Pricing:
For the first group of mothers who join me, I am offering a significantly reduced pre-sale price, in exchange for your honest feedback so I can make this the most supportive program possible.

I feel so supported. Thank you.
I have a client reviewing the copy as we speak. I am excited to hear from her.
Next step, I will create the web page! And see if I can get a sale.
I will also attempt to write an email for my network.
March 22, 2017 at 1:13 pm #36401Hello!
I am exhausted. Get me away from the computer lol.
Here is the first attempt at creating web copy http://www.jennifersummerfeldt.com/healing-after-birth-program
I tried something a bit different to break up all the text. there are alot of pictures.
I REALLY want to create a visual story board for all of this. I think it will help mothers hear the message. Anyways, phase one before I can start trying to get a sale, is complete. With Button!
March 22, 2017 at 7:13 pm #36419All I’ve done is open it and skim through the whole site, I haven’t had the chance to fully dig in, but I must say at first glance, I love the design. It’s beautiful. It’s warm. it’s elegant. I will dig into it more in the next day.
The one things I’ll say is I found it confusing that there was an option to do the live program and the online program. Those should be on their own seperate pages, not together. I personally found that confusing and I think others will too.
I think you can reference the live course on the eCourse page and the eCourse on the live course page, but having both on the same site (at least how it reads right now) is confusing.
Hope that helps and looking forward to reading more.
How you feeling about it?
Stoked for you. Beautiful job!
March 23, 2017 at 9:16 am #36438Heya Bradley,
Thanks again for the encouragement.
I have some creative ideas to tighten up the web page. I am feeling motivated, but I get ‘web creation’ burnout. I also feel the need to sort out the in-person vs online dilemma ASAP because I need to start marketing for May group program; I want this to be ready so I can direct traffic to BOTH options.
That said, I am stuck in regards to marketing both programs. I hear you about needing two pages – which I can do and direct people to either one.
I want to drive traffic to this as the main copy and maybe in terms of choosing which path they want – in person or online – I can have a button with a new page?
I need to be able to really differentiate between in-person and online cost differences. That is my biggest dilemma.
Difference 1 – Deeper discovery and more weeks of programming
Difference 2 – Support throughout the week with online
Difference 3 – Long term access to support
Difference 4 – Go at your own pace and more time flexibility
So, is that enough difference to jump from $99 (subsidized program) to $499? I am thinking that the program needs to be $297 and I pre-sale 50% that cost.
Thoughts???
March 23, 2017 at 2:05 pm #36458The price sounds incredibly fair Jennifer. I think the $150 for yoru beta group and price going up to $300 after that is really reasonable. You can always raise the price to $500 after your first year or if demand gets too much.
#1 priorty straight out of the gate is get as many mommas in as you’re able to and love them up 🙂
As for In Person vs Online dilemma. Just keep it really clear, simple and obvious. When I arrived at this site, I was undeer the impression it was for an online course, but hte first thing I saw was an ad about in person training. Well I live in BC, so now I’m leaving the site because I don’t want to go to the live training. Know what I mean?
It could be at the something like:
Live in Edmonton? Sign up for my online course and receive my 8-week in person training for free.
Or something along those lines. It could be a BONUS if they sign up or something… (just an idea)
Thoughts?
March 23, 2017 at 2:16 pm #36460Jennifer – @holdthepromisegmail-com –
I’m a bit confused if by pre-sale you mean “early bird” or “beta testers”.
If you want to test your price point, what if instead of offering 50% off, what about trying some other options like
a) Adding more value that people will only get the first time around (and stick to it!). eg opportunity to audit all future courses, take the course again at no cost, get future courses at N% off
b) creating a tiered pricing from early bird to full price based on timing
c) offering a multi-pay option where full price is less than split payments
d) go with PFV (Pay For Value) pricing where you set a minimum amount and then can pay any additional amount at the end of the course
Website wise, overall it has a really great vibe that aligns with how you’ve spoken about the course. Some picky things –
i) increase the font size. That small it feels difficult to read.
ii) the slider makes it really difficult to read about the offerings before the next one appears. I think you can easily take care of the in person vs online dilemma by including a side-by-side comparison of the two programs. That way you can easily see what you’re getting with each. The register button would be at the bottom of each column.
iii) take a leap of faith and write the copy as if running the online course is a done deal. The rest of the copy is really strong and then it ends with uncertainty. The vibe coming off the copy as it’s now written doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in you or the course. You’re giving me sub-conscious reasons to say “I’ll wait to see if others jump in first” … and maybe always means no. As does a confused or uncertain mind always say no. Give the women a reason to show up because you are. If the worst case is you learn something about how you deal with nobody showing up, then you’ve succeeded either way.\
Marketing wise, I’d be inclined to add one or two webinars so people can get a feel for the online experience and learn more about you. The personal connection is going to be hugely important, and it will help address concerns if they will miss something by not having an in-class / live experience.

March 24, 2017 at 7:29 am #36481Thank you Bradley and Lorraine,
I have made a few changes. Created a separate page for signing up for the programs.
Because i want to use this page as a landing page for the online programs, I am keeping the slideshow, and linking it to separate pages that go into detail about how to register for the course and pay.
I want to create an infograph for now, and I am working on creating a visual storyboard.
I am also going to write an email today for colleagues, and I need to create a new poster for up coming live program. I want to generate interest in both programs.
Thank you!

I can’t offer the live program for free because payment goes to the organization that is sponsoring it. However, I could offer a reduced rate for the online program to those who take the in person course.

– Is there a way to slow down your slider. I can’t read the text before it goes to the next slide.
– The text looks better where it’s a larger size. I still think you can bump up the font size. For the parts you are trying to highlight text within a sentence, my suggestion is to see what the page looks like by making the text all the same font size (or matching height because not all fonts at say 14px look the same height) and using a sans serif font where you want to highlight. Open Sans, Droid Sans, Roboto, Montserrat would be my suggestions. (The Dear Mother, also needs to be larger to stand out as a heading.)
– Your pre-sale text for the online course reads much better and stronger.
March 24, 2017 at 7:16 pm #36535BRAVO Jennifer!
The site is beautiful and so heartfully written. I just went through it all. I found the layout and flow to be wonderful. I’m not your target (obviously), but I could really see this resonating with them.
I think what I’d like is a video of you sharing about the course and summarizing the pre-sale experience. Just lay it all out and let them make a true connection with you. That could go on the “LEARN MORE” page.
Also, at the very bottom at the learn more part, I found the formatting was kind of squished together where you’re explaining what’s included (see attached pic). Not sure if you can tighten it up and make that clearer so it looks easier to read?
Regardless, amazing job. Mommas are gonna be so grateful and excited!!!
