The past few months, I’ve been deep in e-course creation mode outside of the GEA with my accountability buddy Dan. I’ve been doing some provisional market research on an idea, have been doing the research for the modules, and have created a dry run of the first free mini-course I’ll be offering. You can listen to the dry run on my podcast here: http://togetherworking.com/ep-14-personal-mastery/

Now I have a bunch of material, and some time freeing up in my calendar to do the recordings of the modules, so this challenge is actually aligned with where I’m at!

So, I’m gunna take it on!

YA @stefanmorales!!! Pumped to have you back at the campfire and charging up the mountain with us. This is really exciting. Way to go man. You’ve come a long way since Base camp. I’m stoke to see what you do on this topic of Personal Mastery. This is a big topic of interest for me.

Yeah? Well my friend, you should definitely steep a pot of tea, and take a few runs at the 1 hour podcast episode version. It’s basically what the whole mini-course will likely be made up of.

Of course, the actual course itself will be split into smaller pieces to make it really digestible.

If you do have a listen, I’m curious to hear your thoughts/feedback about the content!

🙂

Looking forward to listening to the podcast. Had a look at your page and sounds like this is for me.

One observation about the page which I 95% liked.

You probably had a really good reason for putting this paragraph where you did but as a reader, I felt a disconnect jumping in to this part, it did not flow.

Personal Mastery is one of the five disciplines of a learning organization, outlined and discussed in Peter Senge’s classic book, The Fifth Discipline: The Art & Practice of the Learning Organization. All five disciplines are interrelated, with the fifth discipline—”Systems Thinking”—being given special attention as it informs all the others. “Personal Mastery,” “Mental Models,” “Shared Vision” and “Team Learning” make up the other four. In this episode, I re-structure and distill Senge’s chapter on “Personal Mastery”. I left the other disciplines out, simply because I didn’t want to treat this as a book summary. It is absolutely necessary to wrap your head around the other disciplines, though, so I highly recommend reading the book. But, if you don’t have time and want to get the gist, you can start with these great summaries online here and here.

I feel it would be better to move that to the end in the ‘Credit where credit is due’ section and that that section should come below the podcast link.
To easy to distract them away from your page to read elsewhere instead of staying to listen.

Could rewrite
“Episode 14 of the Working Together Podcast gives you a powerful tool to help you transform reality into your vision.”.
“Episode 14 of the Working Together Podcast gives you a powerful tool to help you transform reality into your vision, Personal Mastery

Then just carry on with “Personal mastery has two foundational practices:”

Looking forward to listening in.

This sounds great Stefan, and I think this is one mini course I would like to take myself! Definitely feel I could do with some help in this area.

I am inclined to agree with Trish, that the page where your podcast is, would be better if the chapter she has quoted above was placed at the bottom. I felt the same about it breaking the flow and felt a bit lost at that bit. Am currently listening to the podcast and sounding fantastic so far! 😉 Looking forward to seeing it transform into a mini course. Very best of luck!

Thanks @saramccann and thank you @trish_hyatt for your suggestions for readability! I will make those edits. Copywriting and plain language writing is one of the areas where I know I need to make improvements. Your feedback is really helpful for this.

I’m excited about this! The mini-course version of the episode should be an interesting exercise in making the lessons from the episode really clear and digestible.

Hi all! Here’s a bit ‘o clarification and progress update:

• The Personal Mastery course will be a free mini-e-course delivered through a series of e-mails with embedded instructional videos in each. These will be automatically sent when a new subscriber signs up through the landing page I’m building.
• My accountability buddy has provided me a really great framework for structuring the curriculum: BOPPPS. BOPPPS is ideal for an LMS style environment, and not an email-based series of courses, but I’m adapting elements of the framework to make ’em work for an email series.
• I’m working on some copy that I’ll use for the landing page and the promo, which I hope to share some early drafts of here.
• Tonight I’m going to try to record a few draft takes of me delivering the first few modules–to help think through the video editing, etc.

That’s where I’m at for now. Over and out!

Hi all, here’s the text from this week’s newsletter to my subscribers where I share my creative process with them and open the door to any feedback on the draft notes for the modules! I’ve shared this with folks on FB as well.

-=-=-

//Over the next few weeks I’ll be putting together Working Together’s first mini e-course on Personal Mastery.

I would love to hear what you think so far.

Peter Senge’s notion of Personal Mastery is like the ground floor of getting sh*t done and making something happen with other people.

It’s kinda like working together 101.

No. No. Scratch that.

Actually, it’s more like the pre-work for working together 101… the work you do on your own before you call the team together, start networking, working with your clients, or whatever it is that you do (you crazy dreamer you)!

I really believe in Personal Mastery, and I think it can help anybody who’s trying to create something from nothing.

BUT this is a tuff discipline that requires some time to wrap your head around. I took a run at it last month in episode #14 of The Working Together Podcast (http://togetherworking.com/ep-14-personal-mastery/), but the plan was always to give the topic a different treatment to help the lessons sink in.

So, by the end of this month I’ve committed to turn this little podcast into a neat and tidy free e-course. I’ll be delivering it to new subscribers (fresh from the automation oven!) as a series of emails over 4 or 5 days.

Each email will have a video module that unpacks the key lesson with diagrams, etc. and a few resources/exercises.

Because you guys have been reading, listening and following Working Together for some time now, I would like to share part of my creative process with you. Here’s a link to my draft notes for the modules in google docs:

If you have any feedback, ideas, etc. you can comment directly in the document!

XOXOXOX

Reading the outline, it seems like you’ve got a solid foundation for a mini course.

What do you want people to walk away with when completing the course?

Hey Brad, thanks for the question. I want people to walk away with the same sense I had when I discovered this material a few months back:

• “No matter the setbacks, I can do this, and I know how”
• “I know how to ride the rollercoaster of emotions/challenges that comes with striving for a vision”
• “I know how important the truth is to my journey: how I have to be truthful to myself about where I want to go, and where I am now.”

That’s kind of what happened for me. Striving to create something bigger than your current everyday reality can be an emotionally intense experience and this little mini-course will help you navigate the ups and downs with a solid foundation.

Does that make sense?

Thanks Sara, that’s encouraging to hear. I am often not sure if what I’m saying makes sense. I’m trying really hard not to “nerd-out” on the material and communicate the key messages simply and clearly. I think the podcast episode is a start, but I need to make it even more plain-speak for the mini course.
