    @Mars

I think you’ll make a wonderful video @saramccann Rebecca has given you an amazing ‘template’. Love how you described it as organising scarves. Totally saw that in my head as you described it. So.. I’m sure the video will be wonderful.

Sara, just remember. All you’re doing is making art. Have fun, make art, good things will happen.

I think a great deal of what Rebecca made for you can be used.

    Love this community.

    Hi Sara,
I’m so glad that me making the video, gave you a needed boost towards making your own! That is the whole point, of course. I don’t plan on getting into the “done for you” video creation business.. I was just inspired by your concept and vision, intrigued by the artistic possibilities, and wanted to give it a try.
One phrase I have heard quite a bit (can’t remember if it was in this course we are all in, or elsewhere) was the concept of taking imperfect action. It sounds to me like you have been somewhat getting in your own way by imposing such visions of grandeur on yourself, that no one could ever live up to them. It is important to jump in somewhere and “just do it”.. recognizing that the end result is not going to be perfect, and will not live up to everything one can imagine in one’s head (but then, as you are so eloquently giving voice to… cannot express, even to ourselves).

Real things in the real world are never as perfect as the visions we imagine in our minds, because:
    time
    gravity
    money
    resources
    skill
    constraints
    etc

all of these get in the way of perfection. If we intend to create something real, the first step is to recognize that it is going to be IMPERFECT.

This is YOUR course, and it needs to be done YOUR way. I agree with that 100 percent. I made the video for you if you want to use it (and I will still be happy to make an edited version , if you want). I am not sure what you mean by taking elements and using them… I have licensed subscriptions to Getty Images and Animoto, that I use for my business and pay for on an ongoing basis. That allows me to create things (like that video) and use them for clients or give them someone else (as is). However it would be a violation of the terms of my subscription, for me to give pictures from my subscription to someone else to use in their own work (without that person having their own subscription). Do you see what I mean? I can give you the whole video (as is) to use for your business.. and I can edit it using other (licensed) images and videos and music. But I can’t allow work with my business name and logo on it, to be used in ways that I don’t have control over in terms of what images and video and music are in it (from a copyright and licensing point of view). That could potentially expose me to liability and lawsuits if anything in a video that included my business’ name and logo, were not licensed properly (by me). Does that make sense? Similarly, I can’t share images from my own subscription with others… unless they are part of my own business and I paid Getty for a license seat for them too.
I am guessing that when you said there were elements you liked, you meant not so much the specific images and video clips I used, as the inspiration, look and feel, ideas, etc… the whole gestalt. Of course, that’s why I made it. to inspire you and act as a catalyzing force. My feelings will not be hurt if you don’t choose to use the video (as is, or ad edited by me). If you mean that there are things you like in terms of the concept and ideas, of course, go for it.. that’s why I made it for you. But if you were actually referring to images and sound track and video clips, I am not allowed to share those except in the finished product (I THINK.. actually this is the first time this issue has come up so I can contact Getty images tomorrow and ask them.. but I don’t think I would be allowed to share because how would they make money if any of their subscribers could just take licensed images and give them away to others?) So if you literally meant that you would use images, video and audio from my video, in your own… I don’t believe that is an allowed way to use licensed images, so my answer would have to be no. I’ll check with Getty and find out tomorrow and let you know what they say. But if what you are planning to do is make an entirely new video using all of your OWN resources (photos, video, music, etc) based on the ideas and inspiration created by the one I made.. go for it.

    @saramccann

Thank you for your confidence in me @mars! Ahh, the scarves…it’s a brilliant way of describing it isn’t it!? I can’t take credit for that though…that was Rebecca’s great creation that I was quoting to her to show how she had completed the challenge she set out to do.

Thank you too @bradleytmorris. I shall try! 😉

Thank you @learnandgetsmarter! I appreciate your understanding, and you are completely right that I do get in my own way by not being willing to take imperfect action. I recognise it is something I need to ‘get over’ and am trying very hard to overcome it. It has been with me for as long as I can remember though so it’s not an easy one to shift unfortunately. I shall keep working on it! 😉

No, I completely understand that the pictures and videos etc are not mine for using and not something you can give to me. What I was really referring to when I said I would like to take elements from your creation was the way you structured it. When I started to try and make my own last week I had so much text written to go in it, it was laughable! Far too wordy! Mine also lacked any flow. (It was a mishmash…much like it is in my head lol) Whereas yours, led the viewer so beautifully to the conclusion, with more impact, and in fewer words. That is what I would like to take from it if I may? Your wording and flow really. I particularly loved how you used a reference from the movie ‘ they said it couldn’t be done’ and your reference to escaping their sentence, ‘we’ve got the keys’  etc. Actually…I loved all the words you used and descriptions, and the way it led the viewer. I also loved the way you made the pictures look like they were part of an old cinema reel. So, it’s those kind of things that I mean.

There are a couple of pictures in there that inspired me too, I loved the picture of the keys being hooked from within a jail cell and the picture of the man sitting down in handcuffs. However, if I feel they are necessary to convey the message perhaps you could just direct me to them on getty images and I could pay for them myself if I feel them necessary? I will let you know though if I need the links for them to go an purchase them for myself. I’m going to try and create it first with what I’ve got and can get for free and I’ll see if that leaves me lacking or not.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Sara @saramccann
Yes! Absolutely! Take the words and the flow and GO with it lol.
I actually did not write anything down before starting the video creation process.
I just looked for pictures that told the story (based on what you had narrated to me when we spoke,
which was very clear and had excellent storyline and flow) and then I added the words later.
It also helped that I had just watched the actual video on Netflix the day before, so it was fresh in my mind.

That’s a great idea about you licensing any “must have” pics directly from Getty! That will for sure work.
If you get to that point just let me know and I’ll send you the links.

Validation Swamp  Checkpoint 2 – Craft your offering.

I have found this one tough. Not because I can’t think of what to say but because I have TOO much to say! I have redrafted, and edited and cut again and again and this is what I have left. I worry it’s still too wordy. I think I might require some condensing (or am i being too picky?) and sculpting! 😉 but perhaps my fellow adventurers might be willing to help me edit a bit more if that is the case? Obviously, on the proper sales page it might not appear quite as wordy as there will be images, and colour breaking it all up but here it is….

    A) Paint a picture of the problem you’re solving

Being a smoker makes you feel miserable. Constantly bombarded by the government and well-meaning loved ones about how much damage you are doing to your health. I mean…enough already! You know the dangers right? You don’t need to hear them again!

What all these well-meaning people miss, of course, is that the damage to your health is often an imagined pain in the distant future. Whilst the pain and misery you will have to go through to stop smoking is right here and now. That real misery that you have experienced so many times. Every time you have tried to stop before. That loss, emptiness and anxiety from not having cigarettes. Avoiding that immediate misery is what makes smoking worthwhile right? Despite all the heatlth problems they warn you all about.

    B) Introduce your course (name and tagline)

But what if there was a fun way to stop smoking? One that didn’t leave you bored, empty or feeling ill? Now there is….

Welcome to Escape From Nicotraz – The fun way to break free from smoking!

    C) Talk about what you’re going to do – transformation and results

You see, I know that you keep waiting for that right and perfect moment to stop don’t you?

You don’t want to force yourself through fear, restriction, and cravings. I get that, I understand.

Well this is it…your perfect moment in creation. You see, I’m not going to ask you to stop smoking and put yourself through that pain. I’m here to help, not hurt you more. In fact, I’m going to ask you to keep smoking UNTIL you reach that perfect moment. That is what Escape From Nicotraz was designed to do. To create that perfect moment for you, that switch in your mind that leaves you feeling…easily and happily…that you simply don’t want to smoke anymore. It doesn’t get more perfect than this.

    D) Highlight the modules/checkpoints

Escape from Nicotraz will take you on a fun adventure to free you from the prison that cigarettes have been holding you in. By using hypnposis and addressing every psychological trick that smoking plays on you, you will achieve true and happy freedom forever as you travel through the escape route below.

Step One – Smoke and Mirrors – Make your thoughts your own again so that they can help you instead of helping the cigarettes to keep hold of you.

Step Two – The Parasite – Learn how to extract smoking from your life without feeling like you’re losing something by not having it there.

Step Three – The Prison Guard – Step back and see the reality of the abusive relationship you have with cigarettes and you will find your feelings towards them will change massively

Step Four – The Snake Pit – This checkpoint will help you become clear about the deal you have made by smoking, and how the benefits you thought you were getting might not be all you once thought.

Step Five – Tethered Elephants – Learn how you have developed misleading beliefs that have kept you chained to smoking and how to break those chains with ease so you can walk away to freedom

Step Six – Grave Diggers – Helping you find the motivation to rebel against the dictatorship you have been living and suffering  under whilst smoking

Step Seven – Mountain Leap – Helping you to feel good about your decision to stop smoking and leave those all fearful feelings beind.

Step Eight – Waterfall Wonder – Find new ways of living so you can enjoy your freedom naturally and in the best possible way

Step Nine – Beach Weigh – Learn how you don’t have to worry about putting on weight when you stop smoking. Install new habits to help you maintain your current weight

Step ten – A Boat Called Freedom – Tying everything together  that you have learned you can now step into that boat and set sail to a much brighter horizon.

    E) Share your excitement of why you’re so excited about creating this program

I am so fed up with seeing smokers being treat like second class citizens, seeing them belittled by showing them scary health stories and pictures, making them feel like this is their fault, giving them drugs to ‘cure’ them. Drugs that have such low success rates and come with extreme side effects such as nausea and depression. Not only do all these other methods demean you, they all lack the one component that is crucial in order to help you stop smoking…your unconscious mind!

Escape From Nicotraz is a unique and different solution that I feel is so desperately needed. A way that supports smokers, understands them and their fears, makes the process of quitting an enjoyable one and provides the result they desire forever, not just a few weeks! Using methods that have been proven to be the most effective in quitting smoking that there is. A method that targets your unconscious mind, where habits and addictions live…to put an end to you being a prisoner to them.  I bring you freedom without pressure, bullying, sickness and lies. More importantly, I bring you complete freedom!

INSERT QUOTE HERE FROM NEW SCIENTIST MAGAZINE ISSUE 1845:

“Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little”

    F) Call to action

I want you to life your life as fully and as happily as possible. I don’t want to see you dictated to by cigarettes telling you that you have to stand out in the rain to spend time with them, or worry when you start to get to the bottom of the packet. Nor do I want to see you go through months of misery to try and quit and end up with that forever feeling that something is missing from your life because you’re not a smoker anymore. I am so excited for you to see how transformational this will be in your life!

Let’s take control, rebel against the prison guards that hold us here and get the freedom we deserve.

    For your health…

    For your wealth…

    For your family…

    Let’s kick some Nicotine Ass!

    G) Make the early bird discount obvious and let them know the official price

They say the early bird catches the worm and I am thrilled to tell you that today, you are the early bird!

Escape From Nicotraz is still receiving its final touches to make it ready for the mass public. Once it releases the cost to be part of the escape plan will be £250. The same price that is costs your average 20 a day smoker to smoke for one month. So even at that price you will make your money back in no time.

However, for a limited time only I am offering you the chance to be part of my escape team for only £125.

Enrolment on this course is by invitation only. To apply to escape from Nicotraz for only £125 please complete the questionnaire below and I will get back to you to let you know if I think you have what it takes to escape.

    H) Add testimonials

I’ve stopped so many times before , but this time it feels like I have walked away from smoking forever. It feels so different. I’ll be honest, I was super sceptical about how it could work better than anything else, but it did. I was astounded at the changes it made in my life and the way I thought about smoking. It just felt natural not to smoke any more and I never experienced any withdrawal or cravings at all – I was astounded by that! I have never felt better. Turning my life around was so easy!

    Gordon, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

    * This is the only testimonial I have at the moment which is why I thought it might help to add the quote from the new scientist magazine.

    I) Include a brief bio if doing a sales page

I have studied Hypnotherapy, Psychology, NLP, Counselling and Stop Smoking Cessation for the past 25 years and all of the skills I have learned and trained in have been packed into this course to create the most powerful transformation imaginable for smokers.

Added to this, I have also successfully helped thousands of smokers free themselves from what they thought would be a lifetime of addiction.  Working so closely with them I have learned to walk in their shoes and from this, I have developed such a wealth of understanding of their pain points, hang ups and beliefs that I have been able to create, after a long time in the making, a way to address all these issues in a fun and adventurous manner so that the idea of stopping smoking is no longer a ‘huh, i suppose i should’ and is now more of a ‘I can’t wait to start’

    J) Be transparent that this is a pre-sale

Escape From Nicotraz is curently in pre-sale mode and enrolment is by invitation only. If you are successful in your application you will be trying out the beta model of this course. The official course will be launched on January 1st 2018.

    K) Again let them know how excited you are and remind them of the deadline

The invitation-only price of £125 will increase to £200 on the 30th November. On the 31st December, it will reach it’s full price of £250 and will never be reduced again.

    I) If you have a sample of the course or trailer – this will help them decide

    Video trailer coming soon! 😉

And an extra bit I have added after the feedback you have all given me from step one of validation swamp.

One more thing I need to say. No refunds will be offered on this course. Offering a refund in the field of therapy, and in particular, stop smoking, creates a cycle of self sabotage. The human mind is a very clever piece of equipment, and I know, from many years of working with smokers that when you are dealing with breaking habits, the human mind will do all it can to cling to that habit. It simply needs a reason for doing so that it can convince you is logical. A refund for failing to stop smoking would do just that. Your mind will sabotage your good intentions and work, if the promise of a refund was there for failing.

I am here to help you, not makes things harder for you. So, for that reason, I would far prefer to work with your mind, and offer you a cash back incentive for succeeding rather than failing! This is why I am offering £50 cash back to every one of my early bird applicants who succeeds in stopping smoking for one month and is willing to send me a testimonial and picture along with their permission to use that at my discretion.

With this reduced price, cash back incentive and being able to walk away from smoking, you’ll be in profit from taking this course after just one month!

@saramccann – I just want to say WOW look at all the decisions and progress you have made!  This is really well thought-out, and it’s the first time that I’ve learned about your clever names for the modules/checkpoints.  I love how well you’ve tied all of this into the theme!

I agree that you can probably sculpt and tighten the verbage a bit more.  I consider a sales page to be an important place to gather information AND I think you want to make it concise and understandable.  One thought that occurs to me is this – the theme of your course is “Escape from Nicotraz” and there are some parts of your pitch that incorporate that vibe nicely.  I’d love to see you incorporate more of that into this.  You have such a kind heart and that comes across in what you’ve laid out here.  That being said, I think you could really push the “escape from prison” element much further and turn the adventure notch up a bit.  I really like the idea of an adventure-type experience for your students, and starting that right here in the sales page.  Heart racing, will you be able to do it, how will it turn out?

Can you consolidate the tagline – Escape from Nicotraz: Break Free from Smoking!  I’m not sure the fun part fits with the theme, and I want your material to read as authentically as possible to your readers.

So that’s my best suggestion.  You’ve got so many great and well-thought elements here.  I’d like to see more prison guard/screenwriter persona and less compassionate you.  I don’t want you to remove the empathy piece. I’d just like to see you play up the adventure and courage and daring part of this stop smoking experience, and see what happens if you try to stay consistent with one theme and vibe.

    My two cents!

Could you change the wording/vibe on the questionnaire and invitation process?  Those seem kind and caring when you’re trying to enlist only the bravest and most courageous and determined folks to break free through prison walls.

Do you have time for a movie marathon anytime soon?  Even a one-movie-a-night for a week kind of thing?  Put yourself in Escape and Adventure mode.  I find one of the best ways to get my creative juices flowing is to just flood it with relevant information and experiences.  You will sense how it feels to be a prisoner, a prison guard, the thrill of the escape, all of that.  Then your unconscious brain will work to put all those pieces together with all the ideas for your course, even while you sleep, and I think it will all just come to you.  The strong movie visuals, too, may give you some great ideas for using visuals and graphics in your videos and course materials.

Here are ideas for a “Prison” movie marathon:

    • Escape from Alcatraz (of course)
    • The Shawshank Redemption (similar to the first in many ways)
    • The Green Mile
    • Dead Man Walking
    • Birdman of Alcatraz
    • Murder in the First
    • Bronson (based on a true story, takes place in England)
    • The Longest Yard
    • Escape Plan
    • The Last Castle

Oh!  You could probably find some great documentaries, too, that go into detail about Alcatraz, the famous prisoners, the living conditions, and even factual information about the actual escape attempts.  You may be able to find that on Netflix or YouTube or just searching the internet for more information.  I’ve visited there a couple of times and I always find it to be absolutely fascinating.  I don’t know if there are any day trips you could take from where you live, either, but if there are any prison-type destinations that you could explore it can only help but put you into a specialized frame of mind.

I wish I could join you for a weekend movie marathon!  I could bring snacks and @mars could bring a few bottles of Malbec!

I am absolutely delighted to see this course coming to life. Your outline looks AWESOME.

Given that Audio will be the main-feature for how the transformation is delivered, I bet you could get away with having each module begin with a short video trailer of that room and place in Nicotraz where they are escaping through. (The next room) But I’m sure you have a vision.

Are you going with the “MindTrix presents” at the top of the banner?    😉

Cuz if you’re building a brand of hypno courses, you better   ;P

    Super excited for you.

    @saramccann

@laurakoller and @mars that sounds like a plan! Movie and Malbec night with my GEA girls! That one is going on my ‘freedom’ list. (The things I want to do when I crack this ecourse idea! 😉 ) Let’s do it!

Laura, I completely get what you’re saying about incorporating more theme and perhaps a little bit more ‘sass’ in to my sales page. Somewhere inside of me there exists a sassy Sara, she got grounded at around the age of 21 for being too hard to handle and sometimes she rears her head up, then gets pushed back down. LOL 🙂

What I recognise is that I do need to let her back out. I think she is an important character trait to have to really pull off Mindtrix and now, I’m seeing, for Nicotraz too. I just struggle to blend the other Sara with her so she doesn’t get too cheeky and out of control. Some inner conversations need to take place I think! 😉

I will go through what I have already written and try to edit it some more. I love the idea of making the questionnaire fit in with the theme and also, that gave me the idea of making the ‘cash back bonus when you stop smoking’ in to something like a reward/wanted poster? I’ll have a think on it. Next week I have the whole week off from work work…so that i can do play work.  So I should have the time to do a movie marathon then (she says optimistically) and maybe do one movie a night to get those creative juices flowing! I shall work my way through your movie suggestions (adding the one Bradley suggested too) and let’s see what ideas that stirs up in me. Thank you so much for your feedback, it has helped enormously to clairfy the direction I need to head in.

Thanks so much @bradleytmorris ! and great minds think alike! As yes, I was thinking also that a small video at the start of each step in order to set the scene would work really well. This is part of the reason I wanted to try and have a go at creating my own trailer for Nicotraz as my thought had been to use what I had created for the trailer as a base template and then, for each step, it would just be a case of changing the pictures and text in that original trailer video and make 10 adapted others to set the scene as people progress.

My other thought with the video was to have it set behind iron bars and/or mesh/ (so a video overlay of bars) so it felt like people were watching and looking out from within their cell. As they progress through each step, this iron bar overlay will start to slide until…by the time they get to the last video (on the last step) the iron bar overlay has disappeared completely.

I realise that this will probably not be noted by their conscious mind…but I have no doubt that their unconscious mind will notice it. Kind of like subliminal advertising…making the video itself hypnotic and transformational I hope. I am doing some research into subliminal advertising on video to see what else I can incorporate to make the videos a a transformational piece too.

I also quite like the idea of putting a short poem on each video. A poem that describes the scene. I think this might also add to the entrancing and hypnotic effect. At least, that’s the effect poetry has on me. Nothing slushy and it will certainly not be a literary masterpiece…more a bit of fun. I saw this Ted talk the other day and it was the most amusing I have ever watched. It just makes it different, and somehow, more enveloping. BUT, that is ajust a seedling of a thought and I am on a mission to have this done by the end of this month so if it starts to distract me away from my deadline and take too long it will get shelved and put in to the ‘later perfecting stage’ pile.

As for ‘Mindtrix presents’ an excited  YES! Now that I am coming to the close of Nicotraz I am getting super excited about starting on Mindtrix and my fingers are itching to go and buy the domain that Andy suggested for it. I have a list of projects I want Mindtrix to present and it is all taking shape in my mind and looking very tantalising.

As for the content creation for Nicotraz. I have all the hypnosis mp3’s written and recorded and ready to go. I have ‘filler’ to put in with each step so that people have more to do than just listen to an mp3. The videos for each step is one of these filler items and I also have some steps that will require a PDF and some steps where there are practical exercises to do. For instance, on one step I ask them to start collecting all their cigarettes in a  glass jar half filled with water. In another step I ask them to take a cigarette and take it apart, taking off the paper, the filter and seeing for themselves that it is nothing to be scared of. When you take it apart it is nothing…just paper, and brown stuff. Then, another practical exercise is to get mindful the next time they have a cigarette. To start really thinking and feeling what they are doing. You see, ironically, most people become hypnotised when they smoke. They don’t concentrate on what they’re doing…they’re thinking about 100 other things. But when they stop and pay attention to how it feels and tastes they find themselves disgusted by it.

So…sorry, I digress. All the hypnosis is done. The videos are all still to do. The practical exercises and pdf’s are all written and created. I just need to find a way to present them within the course. Essentially I reckon I’m a week away from finishing the whole darn thing! (I mean, a proper uninterrupted week! lol)

Yes, I definitely want to build a sales page BUT I have no list at all to send it to. My thought here is to utilise facebook friends and anyone else I can lean on to help promote it for me. I am also toying with the idea of paying for a facebook ad that uses the trailer video on it. never done that before though so…will look into it.

Bradley, I have a question though about the presenting of it all. Should I put the whole course on Teachable or try and host it myself? If hosting myself what is the cheapest option open to me to do this? And perhaps, also, the easiest for me to learn to do quickly?

Thanks everone! Don’t know where I’d be without you all.

Oh, and also. Another query I have which @andyfreist might be able to help with?

Andy recommended I buy mindtrix.io . As escape from nicotraz and other future productions are all going to come under this brand name should they all have the .io extension too?

I have already bought the .com and .co.uk extension for escape from nicotraz but before i start marketing it and putting content on it I just wanted to make sure I have the right domain extension.

The .io’s are much more expensive than anything else and I don’t have the spare money to purchase them. However, if it is important for the future in  then I will find a way to find the cash. Some help would be really appreciated as I would really like to get this set up as correctly as possible from the get go

WOW!  I didn’t realize how much you had accomplished, Missy!  That is incredible!  I’m so stoked for you!

LOVE the idea of the WANTED poster. I’ll bet after that movie marathon you’ll have even more clever ideas to add (if you haven’t passed out from all the Malbec).

I don’t know anything about Facebook ads – not yet. Do you have any contacts from when you initially gave this course face to face?  I wonder if they might be willing to spread the word.

There are some other things you could try also, like maybe posting an article on Medium or a response on Quora that links to your site. I heard some compelling testimonies from people who have used those to market themselves successfully. But I do agree that your personal contacts is likely the best way to share and spread the word. Maybe an appeal – do you know anyone who might benefit from this?  Or maybe even ask them to send out a survey to smokers they know. A survey could be less threatening – you know, instead of implying “you should quit smoking and take this course” you’re asking smokers to share their experience with stop smoking efforts – how many times they’ve tried, what they’ve tried, longest period of success, reasons why it didn’t last – and then ask if they would be interested in a program like yours, what components would mean the most to them, how much ch they might be willing to pay. You may have already decided your answers on many of these, but you never know what else you might dig up!

    Kudos!
