GULP!
For the August challenge I shall make my first ever video. I have no clue how, but I’m going to figure it out. Time to make a new mood board and story board.
I think, the jury is still out, that I’ll be giving a lesson on the placenta – probably encapsulation. I will add it to my website, but ultimately it will go into my ‘bag shop’ as part of one of my future eCourses.
August 8, 2017 at 3:53 pm #48448So glad to see you on board!
When I participated in my first challenge, I just focused on getting the video done. I did it all on my Smartphone in one video and that was that.
Now, every time I do a video, I learn something new.
You and I are going to be video experts by December!!! Okay, maybe not experts, but certainly improved vs. right now 😉
WOOHOO!!!!!

August 9, 2017 at 1:21 pm #48534This is great @mars, let Youtube be your very best friend. Decide what you want to do, then go to Youtube and ask, “How do I ______________.” Youtube has all your video production editing needs 😉
August 9, 2017 at 1:22 pm #48536Oooh, placenta encapsulation. I do find that fascinating and wish such a thing had been available or more known about when I had my little ones. Go for it Mars! I will be super excited to see your creation.
August 10, 2017 at 12:17 am #48563Thank you @bradleytmorris I’ll do just that.
@saramccann – me too. I didn’t know about it until after I became a doula. I have so many clients that want it now.
Still working out what I want to say (and how to cut the information down in 2-7 mins) and my mind is filled with how it might look. So I’m quite excited too, to see how it will look.
August 10, 2017 at 1:03 am #48566Initial thoughts –
I film the encapsulation process and run it in the background whilst explaining the process
or
I talk about the benefits of encapsulation, who uses encapsulation and the traditions of eating the placenta
or
I talk about the placenta and her functions
It may well be a mixture of the three.
I’m at the popping my thoughts down stage.
August 10, 2017 at 9:54 am #48577The gears are turning! Whatever you decide, I encourage you to KISS – Keep It Simple, Silly. It’s so easy to get carried away with everything, but your audience will often gain so much more if you really focus and keep things very specific.
I also encourage you to think about how you can best serve your audience. What are they seeking? They can find information with a quick Google search, but I’m sure you can provide some helpful insights from your own personal experience. What kind of a transformation can you provide? Are you trying to help someone make the decision about whether to do it? To evaluate the pros and cons? To understand the reasons that motivate someone to di it? Knowing very little about the topic, I’m curious to find out what people want to know and how that knowledge becomes transformative in their lives.
Also, can you tell a story? That’s a really powerful way to connect with your audience and make the information memorable. Perhaps you can think of a typical client or even one particular client that you were able to help. Just yesterday I learned that “social context” can increase learning and retention exponentially as compared to just basic information. So instead of telling someone what to do (divide into groups of three and two of you will ask the third person questions) you relate it to people (so there’s you, your friend, and Princess Di. The two of you are going to ask her questions). It’s a subtle shift that can make a HUGE difference – just like the characters in GEA.
Keep thinking! Keep dreaming! So glad you’re here on the mountain with all of us.
August 10, 2017 at 11:33 am #48583Thank you @laurakoller I have stories, and you’re right, that would be the best way to help with the transformation.
I now have your questions bubbling in my mind and will look at them and see where it takes me.
August 13, 2017 at 6:38 am #48739I may be a man, but I also find this fascinating and want to know!
As far as making a video, I agree… KISS… AND… focus on the message… the story… Simon Sinek has a great little video on how to START and frame any talk that I suspect you may find helpful. It basically recommends explaining the end result for the audience (where the video will leave them) and then starting with a compelling story… then some info to thicken out your points. I can’t find it but here is another that gets at the essence also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb8KpHqU5tg
August 13, 2017 at 8:36 am #48744Thank you @davidj. I’ll watch that just now.
Much appreciated.
edited to add: Watched it. Thank you. I’ll be watching more of his videos.
