I did it! I got on camera and made this video for you guys. I had a bit of fun with the green screen. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

You are awesome Laura. Way to stretch that comfort zone your first day on the mountain. So stoked for your yes to be here and love that you’re playing with the green screen already. We’re gonna have a lot of fun, I can tell  😀

Believe it or not, Andy was terrified on being in front of the camera when we started the Great eCourse adventure. He was like a deer in the headlights as soon as the lights came on and we pressed record. But after 100+ videos he soooo much more comfortable and confident.

We will help you with that goal!

Here is a great interview we did with Jan Keck about getting comfortable on camera…

Thanks Bradley! It’s just so weird seeing myself on camera. I look so much puffier than in the mirror. I’ll have to get used to that …

I can’t get to the article … I get a stop sign. Is there something else I need to do to get to basecamp? Thanks very much, Laura

It just takes lots and lots and lots of practice. Get in front of that camera EVERY SINGLE DAY until your course is created. Share Share Share. Let yourself feel stupid until you feel great!

It’s kinda funny –  I avoided being on camera in journalism school, even though I did broadcast …

Yes, I’ll get myself on camera every day for a few minutes. That’ll help a lot. Thanks!

Thanks Akasha! Thanks Paulo! I’m trying to get on camera once a day just to get used to how I look on video. Best, Laura

I think you did a great job, Laura.

I’m slightly terrified to be in front of the camera, too! I’m much more comfortable behind my keyboard. And besides, I got older when I wasn’t paying attention or something so, things are not the same on the outside anymore, like the gray streak taking over my hair! Oh my:) ha

Green screen on day one…pretty brave and fun! I’m afraid I have minimal science brain but, I can’t wait to see what you decide for your course and the fun parts you mentioned as ideas looks like creativity fits right in with your science, so I’m in. Best—

    Hi Laura,

10 points for just getting up there! Not my thing either but you inspired me, so will practise doing it everyday too. Love the vsuals and music. Very talented. I think you are going to zoom up that mountain!

Thanks @cathy It’s so hard to see myself on camera. And, I found my mind going blank … Yes, I need lots of practice and then I’ll be fine 🙂

Parents geeking out with their kids on the natural world is truly a thing of beauty, and so essential to counter-balance the more materialistic influences of peers and mainstream culture. Way to go!

As for your presence on camera, I think it’s a lot better than you might think. Possibly the most irritating thing about people’s presentation styles is the very common and unconvincing ‘unnatural overconfidence’ we can see everywhere online these days. It seems you are developing your natural confidence, which is a much stronger approach that will resonate with more people.

Also, can I ask where you went to broadcast journalism school? It’s an interest of mine 🙂
