    Guys, hey, guys!

Great timing on the SIIGDI challenge (even if it doesn’t acronymize very well ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I’d been feeling a bit overwhelmed with packing and closing open loops in California so things have been super slow on my big course.

Interestingly enough, I committed to a specific path about a week ago and then got “commissioned” to deliver a coaching essentials course. Since I had just been looking at ICF accreditation for another coaching program I’m faculty for, it was great timing.

Now, I already have a tight timeframe for getting that material together and know it can’t be “perfect” in the time I’ve got. Then, along comes this challenge!

    So, yeah, I’m totally in.
(I want that ring! It is precious. I feel it calling to me…)

Now to figure out if I’m going to tie it into the ISA theme or make it something completely separate. I can see pros and cons to both, but either way — I’m gonna do it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And after reading the challenge description, I’m already doing it “wrong”! ๐Ÿ˜‰

What I’m doing for this challenge is building the site that goes around the coach training. Copy, sales mechanism, and membership side of things all working so I can leverage this into an ongoing course rather than a one-off.

I can’t commit a full day each week, but I’m down for as much of Friday as the family/moving allows going towards this project.

Yesterday included getting the WP site sorted, installing a cornucopia of plugins, and getting WooCommerce plus Sensei sorted.

I now have a working site that can take payments and deliver content. Now I just need to get some of that content and the copy to wrap around it.

I also spent some time pondering how I’ll theme this and if/how to tie it into my main course theme. Nothing decisive on that front, but working through those thoughts.

    Awesome work Dr. W.

The main course is an outer space simulation, right?

Perhaps the theme for this one could be the journey to arriving to flight school.

Kinda like how our outer space adventure leads people to the mountain…

    Just an idea.

Bradley, that is a thought. Appreciate it.

Right now, I’m leaning more towards a parallel track in the Inner Space Academy that gets people ready to be part of the support system, rather than the main storyline of the sales training that gets them out into the bigger world, interacting with strange creatures.

I’m also pondering how to start incorporating the theme and stories without the full blown animations I envision for the BHAG version of things. Am leaning towards the story in text with some small sketches or drawings to keep them engaged. (Too long reading illustrated books to the kids?!)

Today was productive in a whole different way — sorted through 6 or 7 boxes of stuff that moved out here with us 4 years ago and recycled or trashed at least 5 boxes worth of junk.

Looking at dates, I think we’ll be filling the trailer on the 26th-28th and moving ourselves that first week in May! It feels so far away and so close all at once…

    Whee!

And, Laura, appreciate the supportive words. I hope you make the progress this month that you need. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help and I’ll do my best amongst the lunacy of moving from Northern California to Southwest Michigan!

This week’s progress has been a combo of reading a ton of Yu-kai Chou’s “Actionable Gamification” to apply it to the ISA, thinking through the implications of Andre Chaperon’s “Sphere of Influence” for ISA/CE, and getting email lists and forms set up.

Hope folks are having a happy Easter — whether celebrating fertility, candy, or the resurrection!

whether celebrating fertility, candy, or the resurrection!

Love this! Covering all bases. It really made me smile!

Sounds like your course is really coming along well – hats off to you for managing to keep up with it whilst moving house too – that’s a HUGE undertaking for sure!

I have been wanting to make a start on reading ‘actionable gamification’ How have you found it so far?

Sara, I had been sitting on Actionable Gamification for about 9 months and only just started it this week. I have been getting some exposure to the ideas from the Octalysis Prime slack group and one of my accountability partners from OP.

I had been nearly ready to dive in when BrAndy mentioned their interview with Yu-kai and a parallel conversation turned up the possibility of becoming certified in Octalysis at the point where I was seriously pondering how to improve the engagement of my Inner Space Academy platform.

It is a good read. I am 2/3 of the way through and have covered enough to get Level 1 certified. I (half jokingly) asked my 9 year old son if he wanted me to read him some for bedtime and he said “sure”. He and my 11 yo daughter both got into it enough that they wanted to read more later in the week!

Yu-kai definitely “eats his own dog food” and implements the ideas right there in the book. There are little application questions at the end of each chapter that are really useful when looking at my GEA project. In fact, we’ll see what other ideas I come up with for GEA itself!

In summary, I would recommend it when you are ready to add that layer to your course (or your life), but not until then. Oh, and Yu-kai just released the audio book version, so that is available as well. (Which would have been convenient in the car when my daughter decided she was done reading it out loud to us because the glare off the ipad screen was too harsh! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

    Feliz Pรกscoa!
