My first theme was the Magical Library for when I was doing boundaries and protection for people in general.
Last night I went back and read everything I could find and my own ideas from when I was looking for my first target market’s theme.
Nothing clicked, so today, as per Bradley and Andy’s rec to go to nature, I went with my friend and we spent the day going to our favourite labyrinth. It is a fair trek outside of town and is an outdoor labyrinth. The best part about it is that it has a huge standing stone in the center of it.
While there, I was given my theme in one word: Sanctuary.
Middle English (in sanctuary ): from Old French sanctuaire, from Latin sanctuarium, from sanctus ‘holy’. Historically, a sanctuary is the holiest of holy places. Now, it’s a word for anywhere a person feels especially safe and serene.
My theme for teaching boundaries, protection, and transition to Doula’s and Birthing Parents is creating a sanctuary.
Sanctuary has that mixture of safety/protection along with solace or nurturing that I was looking for. It is also simple and uncomplicated, which is needed when labour is happening. Also, both type of students need a place where they can be supported and held in high esteem and care.
I am also happy that within the sanctuary I create I can still have a magical library. I also plan to have a napping room, a labyrinth, an inner courtyard training ground, a solarium for extra warmth and vitamin D.
I want lots of comfortable outdoor places within the sanctuary as well as indoor rooms. Lots of green plants, trees, and flowers to anchor and support the body. Rich yet warm vibrant colours and textures inside. A sense of magic, the Cosmos, and the Earth.
I will be selling my 6 week class. I have created a free hour and a half introductory talk/class for Doulas that focus on the 2 most important of the 6 topics:
1. Straddling the dimensions of caring for the person and baby in the liminal state of labour while interacting with the 3rd dimension of the doctor/midwife and other people in the room, so the Doula does not get energetic whiplash.
2. Grounding, clearing, and setting a moving sacred space wherever they are (home, car, hospital, birthing center, etc.), which also teaches skills that they can use in a multitude of situations.
I am focusing on creating for Doulas first. Then for Birthing Parents.
I want to teach so that people learn it with body memory, so that it is bodily instinct not something you have to think about or try to remember in the stress of the moment.
Thank you all of you. I am so inspired by everyone here.

This feels so easy and perfect Akasha. Beautiful! Congratulations for landing on your theme.
Your desire to have your students know the teachings inside their cells makes me think audio meditations will be a key component. There something so magical and beautiful of guiding people inside themselves to unlock these hidden knowings or to allow for the body to accept a guided cue as truth inside the cells.
Really excited for you and I’m feeling inspired too!March 17, 2017 at 6:39 am #35994
Love the idea of Sanctuary – especially as it translates over nicely for the ‘birthing environment’ as well. You need a birthing sanctuary, where ever you give birth. A sanctuary keeps the sacredness in birth. It also gives a felt sense of the calm, peaceful, deep, trusting environment.

Akasha @mysticsparkling, fantabulously perfect theme for creating a sacred space for sacred work to be done. So looking forward to seeing this transform from concept into reality.March 18, 2017 at 3:16 pm #36090
Excellent theme–truly resonates with your approach and audience. I’m also intrigued by, “I want to teach so that people learn it with body memory…” — it’s rare (at least in my experience so far) to see online courses that try that (because we can’t literally, physically touch someone), and it feels like something that must be absolutely fundamental to what you are teaching (and what both Doulas and parents need to learn).
Nicely done 🙂March 18, 2017 at 10:21 pm #36113
Hi Akasha, This is really beautiful! I love your idea – the sanctuary, the different rooms, the deep knowing. It’s all so cosmic and wonderful.
Take care and I’ll see ya on the mountain,

Hi Akasha! Wow, you’ve made tons of progress since we last met! I like how you have focused in on a specific group for the course.
The sanctuary theme is so perfect. Of course the magic library needed to include nature all around it. It breathes life into the course and is so aligned with the doula role.
“I want to teach so that people learn it with body memory, so that it is bodily instinct not something you have to think about or try to remember in the stress of the moment.” This really makes your course stand out. With your incredible energy skills you can totally transmit this in an online platform.
Look forward to catching up soon!
