Hi all,

I’m in the process of setting up gamification in our ecourse (our ecourse is already up and running with 50 members so I’m implementing this in retrospect).

We’re using Learndash with social learner theme.

It’s not the tech side that’s the issue (we have help with that) it’s the strategy side and planning out how many points to give what!

I’m not sure how many points to offer for which parts of the course or completed challenge, and I wondered if there was a guide in the training materials somewhere that might help?

We’re going to do something very similar to Bradley Morris and Andy with our points system.

Members get points for the following:
*completing the course materials (I’d like to give some key components of the course more weight than others if I can)
* challenges, similar to GEA
* winning ‘member of the month’ (most supportive and contributing member in our community).

Points can be redeemed in a shop similar to GEA but we haven’t decided on prizes yet!

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Hey @j9, there are no rules to this and we didn’t do a “deep dive lesson” on it because most people haven’t been tech-savvy enough to do what we did. If you can get to a coaching session one of these Mondays at noon PST, we cna definitely coach you through this.

Basically thought…

You set your points. We basically made 100 bajillion = to $1.

We gave points for

• logging into your account (once per day)
• commenting in the forum
• completing a lesson
• completing a checkpoint
• completing a challenge

That’s it.

Super excited that you’re putting this into your community!!

• thanks so much @Bradley Morris that makes it so much easier. I was over-thinking it completely!
• I’ll come pick your brains at a coaching call if need be. I’m struggling a bit with having to retrospectively apply our theme ideas to so many existing materials so I might come along to get advice on that too 😊

So @bradleytmorris do I get bajillions for completing checkpoints again, on the second trip, or just for launching again?

@j9 it’s so easy to over think everything lol You should come to coaching call anyway and say hi. So many gems are picked up there.

Unfortunately the system won’t let us do that @mars. However, every time you share in the community you earn and every challenge you complete, you get paid!

Thanks @bradleytmorris and @mars for your feedback, a bit of an update one month later (good things take time lol)

We have introduced two challenges – a video introduction challenge that we were already doing, and a business bestie challenge. Both seem to be going quite well which is great.

However, I have two more questions:

1. I’m a stuck on how to automate the points/rewards when a challenge is completed. How does the software konw that someone has completed a challenge Bradley, in order to reward the points? (we’re using the same software as you by the way, Credly and Badges).
2. Rewards- I’m at a complete loss to know how you guys afford all the amazing prizes you are offering in your store at your price point! Although I can see you have a heck of a lot more users since I was last in here a month ago (congrats, that’s freaking awesome). We’ve currently got 45 members at $67 a month and would need to grow substantially to be able to afford prizes etc that we fund ourselves. I have been wondering about sponsored prizes though, partnering up with other businesses that want to get their product in front of our Mums as we grow in the form of prizes. I think even some of our Mum members would probably be happy to offer up some prizes…..

I’d love to get to a coaching call sometime soon, maybe after Easter. Monday’s are a bit tough around the kids but I’m sure I can work something out….

TIA for advice on this.

Hey @j9, thanks for the update. You’re making great progress.

1. We don’t use Credly. We use MyCred for our currency and BadgeOS for our badges. I have to manually reward everyone their badge/currency after completing our monthly challanges. People submit that they’ve completed it, I check the work, then I approve. It takes a whole 60-90 seconds per person.
2. Most people never cash in for the rewards. If they do, it’s often for coaching. We’ve hardly had to spend money. Some of them were also donate/sponsored by the company/author, so we don’t have to pay for them. You can always come up with other types of prizes (60-minute coaching sesh, find designer to give logo, etc… There are always creative solutions)
3. Just go to the Coaching page and shoot us an email when you’re ready to book. Happy to help!

Thanks @bradleytmorris yes I did notice that people don’t tend to cash in – the psychology of it is fascinating.

When I took a look a while back I was tempted by some of your prizes but I remember I had FOMO on being able to cash in on the higher level coaching support from you guys – I wanted to hoard my points and keep them safe until later!

We use MyCred too (we copied you guys of course). I get all the damn plugins and tech stuff mixed up all the time.

I can’t wait to get our rewards system all finished, I’m really excited about it but have to focus on a few other things first.

@bradleytmorris how do you do the ‘people who have taken action on this’ feature at the bottom of your challenges? It’s great to see who’s completed what, really motivating!
