New Home › Forums › Introductions › Hello from Holland, Michigan
Hi everyone!
I just recorded world’s dumbest video to introduce myself… so I’m counting on you to look past that.
My company (myself and a merry band of trusted freelancers) help school districts and small businesses create clear and do-able marketing roadmaps – and certainly, helping to educate school leaders and biz owners on certain topics could be extra dividends for all involved.
As the recently retired communications director from Holland Public Schools after more than 32 years, I I know school districts are stretched to the max in trying to tell their story and recruit and retain students in today’s competitive “school choice” marketplace.
I’ve also coordinated/managed more than 100 election campaigns through the years for individual candidates, school funding, and building bond proposals and so on.
I’m thinking my first attempt at creating a course might focus on this: helping people get a good understanding of an election campaign framework, from A-Z… so they can make good choices if they decide to go forward and reach out to voters.
This all sounds pretty boring – even to me!
Hopefully, with your input, I’ll be able to jazz this all up a bit.
Hi again –
Let’s see if this link to useLoom works:

It’s only 43 seconds.
(It was pure torture for me to do this and I feel badly for now casting it your way.)
That was a great intro video. I can’t wait to see your beard!
Stoked to have you on board here. I reckon we’ll be able to help you create an amazing course.
If I were you, I’d start with your homework being watching 2-3 really good movies that have a theme about elections. I remember seeing one with Kevin Costner, another with Will Ferrell and I’m sure there are other greats out there. Watching a few movies in that realm, may get you in the story-telling mood. Then you can create a course where YOU are essentially the campaign manager, helping them get elected. Could be cool.
Or maybe I”m way off track. But that’s part of the magic of this mountain. We all throw ideas into the pot and alchemy happens.
Have fun climbing to Launch Summit. Great to meet you.
Thanks, Brad.
Good idea to watch a few “campaign” related movies. (will do!)
What I’m thinking about now is a sports team of some kind (football-basketball)… there’s team roster recruitment, different roles/skills, training camp, tough competition, different kinds of fans (from fanatic to lukewarm), high costs/money, PR scandals, momentum, game plans, half-time adjustments, a scoreboard, media, etc. Cool quotes and sport cliches, etc.
We’ll see…
That is also such a great idea @TomP! I love it.
I’m sure as you climb a little higher, it’ll all become clear for you.
