    My name is: Catherine

From the UK but now living in Victoria, BC

I’ve been working 1 on 1 as a hands on bodywork/therapist/Osteopathic manual therapist for some years but am now re-imagining what it is I *really* do. I don’t want to be the magical healer that fixes people – I don’t believe in that any more – I want to embrace my true role as a catalyst for transformation. I’m apprenticing in “mindbody studies” which is a form of movement awareness that uses brain plasticity to open up much more ease. It’s a form of teaching/education/exploration that stops people just hurting themselves over and over. I did a degree in Cognitive science but ultimately have come to see mind and body really are one — so what do we do from there? I spent time working as a “tantric healer” which now just makes me giggle == BUT sexuality, pleasure, sensuality and removing the shame from these things are critical for awesome living: however I need a new way to present it that is truly affirming and honest. I recently came across a book “Sensual Intelligence” by Natalie Geld which feels very close to what I’ve been doing/creating with people. It’s exciting to find I’m not alone!

I teach: people that they can feel pleasure without shame. That they can have dark and shadowy emotions as well as happy fluffy ones. That through awareness of our movements – physical and emotional – we can open up vast new choices than the limited options we are often stuck in. That they don’t need as much external “fixing” as they thought, but they ARE allowed and need support and encouragement to tap into their inner potential and truth.

Why I signed up for The Great eCourse Adventure: Because I wanted to make ecourses but in a way that that was fun, engaging and connected with my sillyness, humour, creativity ( I used to do a lot of comics as a teenager, and am now learning animation!). The ethos of this course excites me and it does feel like a fresh new approach I want to get on board with.

What kind of e-course I want to create:
Lots of big ideas, trying to narrow down to something simple to start with.

    – MindBody stuff : particularly how to grow the parts of us that can really feel, express, and tap into our own inner resources in fierce and visceral ways. The wisdom of the inner wild creature. This includes sexuality, pleasure, anger, grief, passion and a lot of the stuff we’ve pushed into a box.
    – No more stupid Diets! : I am trained as an Intuitive Eating Counselor – some fantastic life changing ideas in this about ending diet mentality and coming to trust your body to end up with true satisfaction and much better health. A critical part of this is developing the capacity to feel your body sensations – this is something where I know a lot from my bodywork experience
Free your Pleasure Creature! This is a synthesis of ideas… the “pleasure creature” is something I’ve seen emerge in my clients when they stop being ashamed of their feelings, and they embrace their creature/animal body in a happy, joyful way — not just sexual, but sensual pleasures – food, touch, connection, dance, art. Being not doing. I believe we can learn a lot from looking at animals. Sometimes I think humans are just “mental monkeys” that could do with remembering how to enjoy their embodiment and stop thinking so much.
Alchemy : dunno so much about interest in this, but I have a long term interest in the use of Alchemical symbols/processes in the psyche and emotions to capture different stages of transformation. Lead into Gold. What I like with the alchemical imagery is it’s full of explosions, bad smells, rotting and death as well as exciting fires and joys — it helps to have tools for these stages and some idea what to do with the more challenging/intense emotions.
    Human Anatomy/Physiology/Pathology for health
    — Finally, I’m a massive anatomy/physiology geek and used to love creating comics and stories to explain this to my classmates. I’ve wondered about making engaging ways to learn these subjects but am concerned it’s a small niche market (medical students….maybe other people would be interested?)

What makes me come most alive is:
When I see people transforming in front of me, through real body experiences. When I see them dance and move with pleasure and joy, in their whole beings. When I see their natural beauty shining out through their expression. When I see people being True in all aspects, light and dark.

    Hi Catherine,
I like how you describe your vision of being an embodied transformational catalytic presence…. feeling pleasure without shame, living the wisdom of the inner wild creature, joyful movement, dancing with light and dark. YES! to all of this. Much needed for all the “mental monkeys”. I’m curious to see your eCourse unfold.

I have been living in Victoria and on Salt Spring Island for the past few years. I am staying in Toronto currently, but will be back on the westcoast in March. I too am shifting out of healer mode and into creative expression flow. Time for much more fun!
Glad you are here to play on the mountain.

Hi @lumasphera – Thank you! I’m curious to see what unfolds too!

I’m going to be in Europe most of Feb, but also back in Victoria in March. I’ve not been to Salt Spring Island yet but would love a visit in the spring, maybe when you are back I can pop up and meet for a coffee? Or let me know if you are visiting Victoria…I’m keen to find and share with other healers–>artists who have some sense of what I’m saying, especially the light AND dark dancing.

Yes hooray to more fun. If I wanted hard work and boring computer time, it would be much easier just to go back to office work. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow Catherine you are amazing! I’ve been a rolfer for 10 years and can relate to some of what you’ve expressed, taking that role as a catalyst for transformation to the NEXT LEVEL! I can’t wait to take your course when it is launched <3 Looking forward to connecting more on the mountain!

@catherine_wildfox. Catherine! A beautiful red fox just trotted past my window, stopped and came up to the window for a good long look at me. And here’s your foxy picture. Let’s keep in touch here on the course journey. And when we are both back in Victoria area I would love to meet in person too.
I know lots of wonderful folks there, many of whom I met through dancing at 5 Rhythms class. I love dancing so much that I co-created an event in Victoria called Dance Temple. It is still running Sunday mornings in Victoria.

Ok I made a first test video on something called Filmora, it is a lot of fun. It cracks me up watching this with the music. It’s inspired me to go out this afternoon and get more footage…intro video coming soon
