Personally, when you’re showing the hands and talking about the cords, I’d love to see it switch so that the hands are the primary BIG video and you are the SMALL one so I can really see what you’ve got going on. It’s harder to see. Especailly if someone were watching on a phone.
So imagine when you’re showing, switch to the BIG view of fingers and when you’re just speaking, switch to the BIG version of you.
I didn’t think about the phone users, I’m going to do that and switch around! 🙂
I think you need to think about an environment that will draw people in. Perhaps it’s more like a “beautiful, clean living room.” You could easily find a background that looks like a musician’s dream living room. Play around with the background til you find your HOME BASE.
I must admit, I didn’t think enough about the background, I’ll do a little research before recording my next video 🙂
What’s your next video challenge for yourself? What you going to complete by this Friday? Perhaps take all of the feedback received and re-do this video one more time so you’ve got a completed copy to start giving away? Also, your tips “keep wrist relaxed,” etc… are awesome little tips that only a true pro would know!
That’s my plan! I’ll probably have it done by Monday my time, rather than friday however – because a busy week of teaching this week 🙂 so by Monday week (this time next week) I’ll have the new video published!
@jonathan@jstewartmusic.com Good job – but is the ZOOM big enough?
I will give you a test where you can find out.
Find an iPhone 5, and have it on the table in front of you on the table, and see if you can see, what you do with the fingers. If you can do that without problems, it is big enough.
Remember always test your videos first in a small iPhone first, so you don’t make a lot of videos that are too small. Tell me what you found out when you have make that test?
For me it is distracting to see you and the other video at the same time, it is more difficult for me to where I shall have my focus. If it was me, I would only have one of the videos at the same time, and shift between them.
Find video from other guitarists and see who they have solve that problem.
Remember that is quite hard to hear all that thing we told you now, but when you have finished all your video, you will be glad because the feedback will make your videos better and faster to made.
And still, remember that you are a quite good beginner!

Here is fast dummy, that looks like shit, but it illustrate how you could shift between talking and talking and playing:
Howdy Jonathan, well all I got to say is that I am mighty impressed. Sounds like you got some tweakin to do but the biggest hurdle is behind you. You DID an amazing video! From now on it’s just the fine tuning, and clearly you’re already on it. Great work cowboy!
